Only the second month of this poll so there are still many open contenders and obviously we barely have any clue how they'll end up, and yet there have been less choices than last month: 11 as opposed to 16. In March there was also a clear frontrunner, with Dunkirk leading the pack at 14 votes. Now it has the same number of supporters but has been passed by Wonderstruck, probably the most buzzed title after having just been selected to play in Cannes' competition. Following closely are Downsizing (the negative screening reactions haven't hurt it yet) and Detroit (with a trailer to judge if it'll be relevant enough for the Academy). Those 4 are our current frontrunners, whereas Phantom Thread, despite now having a "confirmed" release date, goes down 7 votes and places below traditionally baity Darkest Hour and critically acclaimed Call Me By Your Name. Having said all this, will Cannes shed more light next month or will we have to wait until the fall festivals to become aware of the potentially winning indie breakout? In any case, adding MAredux' and OB's votes (to a total of 70, 2 less than last month), this is what we have so far. Feel free to guess how many will actually be BP nominated.
1. Wonderstruck – 15 votes (21%)
2. Dunkirk – 14 votes (20%)
3. Downsizing – 13 votes (19%)
4. Detroit – 11 votes (16%)
5. Call Me By Your Name – 4 votes (6%)
5. Darkest Hour – 4 votes (6%)
7. Phantom Thread – 3 votes (4%)
8. Blade Runner 2049 – 2 votes (3%)
8. The Beguiled – 2 votes (3%)
10. Mudbound – 1 vote (1%)
10. Molly’s Game – 1 vote (1%)
Total: 70 votes
