pacinoyes how could you go and forget Branagh? btw I'm thinking about prestige Shakespeare projects made by directors/actors with clout (i.e. Coens / Washington). So like, not the Joss Whedon Much Ado About Nothing black and white thing or Kurzel's videogame adaptation of Macbeth. The two highest-profile recent misses (that I'm aware of) are McKellen for Richard III and Branagh for Hamlet, but neither of them was Denzel Washington. Branagh? Never heard of him! J/k ..........ugh brain freeze on missing that, thanks I think he is likely to get in too but I will also say that a lot of big name actors have played Shakespeare ( Hopkins, Pacino, Washington already, several others), been great even and come away with no nod .......but yes the project and Coen and his co-star make him likely but not a lock for a nod I think we have 3 nominees that aren't him already - I mean people can argue it but these guys are in imo - Smith, Cumberbatch, Dinklage .......I think that's where people are coming from to slightly question him - if you take those 3 dudes, add in DiCaprio and Cooper .........that's 5........I mean it's a tough year - somebody big is going to miss..........Exactly this. Washington may very well get in, but it will be a bloodbath between at least 6 or 7 different guys, and Washington's film potentially being divisive, only playing NYFF, BAFTA never nominating Washington and Shakespeare roles missing a lot, could be enough to push Washington out. It's all up in the air in terms of the nomination, but I'm pretty damn confident that he won't win.

Cooper always has the supporting role. That one looks more promising than Nightmare Alley.

Cooper always has the supporting role. That one looks more promising than Nightmare Alley.Based on what?? Just based on the footage I've seen, it is based on a real person and I saw the original movie. Unless of course the updated version changed the character.

I believe this version will be more based off the book, and I've heard it's a super baity part. I think Cooper gets in for both Nightmare Alley and the PTA tbh.

Washington is still the odds on favorite to win the Best Actor Oscar with GoldDerby's oddsbook ( Cumberbatch and Smith are still below him in odds, even though they have now been seen), yet here somehow arguably the Academy's favorite working actor in one of the clearly most prestigious roles of his career, whom many feel is long overdue a third Oscar, and was recently named by the New York Times as The Greatest Actor Of The 21st Century is in danger of being "snubbed" of a nomination because..."reasons". Feels like silly season has arrived early ( ) and people are just bored and need to invent reasons to push their own horses over him. But whatever. The fact that The actual home of Shakespeare, England, accepted The Tragedy Of Macbeth into the London Film Festival as the closing film and lavished it (and Washington 's performance )with praise is a massively positive sign as well.

I think Cooper is the likeliest to miss Actor, it's extremely hard to try to break this quintet Smith-Cumberbatch-Dinklage-Washington-DiCaprio.
Plus, regarding Supporting, according to rumours, Benny Safdie may be the MVP, and have the baitier part (borderline co-lead) as the closeted politician.

I'm not betting against Cooper at this point. His track record speaks for itself.

So I'm reading reactions for "The French Dispatch", well, that movie appears dead.

Any other studio would be throwing high fives around and freaking out with excitiment at C'Mon C'Mon's reception...... But for clueless A24 they literally are saying "Wait.....What is C'Mon, C'Mon?" Loool, so much for the inaccessible The Power of The Dog. At this point i think it could even win the People's Choice award at TIFF.
