I bought a 4K player a few months ago so I could get Tenet on 4K, but I'm compiling a list of other films to upgrade in my collection. Most of my library is actually DVDs and I only own a handful of Blu-rays, so I'm mostly skipping the additional step of upgrading from standard Blu-ray to 4K. Just today, I got the Indiana Jones 4K steelbook collection (released last week) because I heard great things about it - more of a natural color tone (no more oversaturated reddish hue, so the actors don't look sunburnt anymore), and Crystal Skull actually looks more like an Indiana Jones movie now and less like the garbage instagram-filter aesthetic that we're used to seeing. Some other films I plan on upgrading at some point are TDK trilogy, 2001: A Space Odyssey (which I've heard is among the very best 4K releases), Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner 2049, Mad Max Fury Road, and the Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection (which includes Rear Window, Vertigo, Psycho, and The Birds). And I think Heat is coming to 4K in August, so that'll be a must-have for me as well. I'm mostly excited to see what some of these older movies look like on 4K. What are some that you own, recommend, or want to own?

I started my collection with the usual suspects ( Dunkirk, Batman Trilogy, Pan's Labyrinth, Atomic Blonde, etc.. ) and for the most part did not disappoint, but I have to confess it tookme a while to get use to the almost videogame-like aesthetic, especially if its not a big-budget action film ( I rented Moneyball, Blackkklansman and 3BB a while ago and there was something off ). I just ordered Basic Instinct and INXS: Live Baby ( old-time favourites of mine ) I think the best is to look forward special editions. Close Encounters of the Third Kind is gorgeous and the ultimate presentation of that film, but Arrow and Shout Factory are the ones that comes with the most unusual titles that are worthy of the treatment, to watch Cinema Paradiso or The Deer Hunter in this resolution is an absolute pleasure. Same for Django, I'm not even much of a fan but the Dune Deluxe Edition is tempting. And if you're able to import I'd recomend Cronenberg's Crash, The Elephant Man, Oldboy !!! In the next months I'd try and get Ran ( imported ) and there's a Columbia Classic boxset that includes Social Network, Taxi Driver, Anatomy of a Murder and Sense and Sensibility.Criterion should be doing this, at this point is kind of ridiculous, a vast majority of their transfers are 4k compressed on blu-ray....
