Which movie do you prefer? The Long Goodbye is the my favorite followed by Lebowski. As much as I love PTA, Inherent Vice just fell short for me and I didn't find it particularly interesting or engaging compared to the other two.
Also, how would you rank the three leads:
Bridges Gould Phoenix

The Long Goodbye is the only one that isn't mediocre to merely decent.
Used to be a big fan of that Coen tho, when I was like 17.

Inherent Vice is still my favorite because it captures Pynchon's shaggy-haired stoner aesthete so well, and streamlines a byzantine novel (albeit straightforward by Pynchon's standards) very nicely.
The Long Goodbye is second. A very fine adaptation and PTA definitely owes it a debt, but I dunno, there's always been something about it that kept me from actively embracing it. Not sure what it is, but I have been meaning to rewatch it.
Lebowski is comfortably last. The performances are dynamite, especially Bridges and Goodman, but it feels like it's a collection of great moments without cohering as a single whole. Not a bad film by any means, and indeed the most rewatchable of the three, but I could find as much enjoyment watching individual clips on YouTube than viewing it as a whole.
As for the leads: Bridges > Phoenix = Gould

I'd say The Dude but I'm not a big fan of any of those.

I more or less agree with how you have them rated walls for them all........ The Long Goodbye is a great film and it's a deceptive one - you have to be on its wavelength to really get it - and usually I don't have to do that - I can usually get a film fully on 1 watch. On like the first 2 viewings "Now that's someone I love and you I don't even like" was funny......then it was scary and heartbreaking.....

I haven't seen it personally but I've heard it's the closest comparison to Inherent Vice than The Long Goodbye.

Problem for me is that I haven’t watched The Long Goodbye in 15+ years so while I remember really liking it, I can’t recall enough to put it ahead of The Big Lebowski.
Inherent Vice is comfortably last as I actively dislike it. But will try to give it a 2nd viewing eventually to see if my opinion changes.

Its hands down The Big Lebowski for me. One of my all time favorite comedies featuring so many good to great memorable/ funny performances in that film (also highly quotable between my friends & I). I literally have no clue how the Coen brothers came up with 90 percent of the shit in that film but it hit all the right marks for me and found it to be hilarious.
