I thought I'd start a thread showing some love to our Aussie friends down under and give major props to all the talented actors & actresses that were born there. I swear, there must something in the water down there cause when I googled "top Australian actors of all time" I was overwhelmed by how many of them there were
Here are some of my favorites...
Heath Ledger -
(flat out LEGEND and will never be forgotten. I always thought he was very talented and had that "it" factor. When Nolan announced that he was going to cast him as the Joker, I thought it was an interesting/inspiring choice out of left field. Also I was confident he'd do a good job BUT I didn't know it would be THAT great of a performance! I mean holy shit, he gave one of the best Oscar winning performances I've ever seen. I think it was all in his voice and that maniacal laugh that blew me away (the 1st time he said "Why so serious?!" to that mobster in a very intimidating manner (before slicing him ear to ear and killing him) gave me goosebumps (no joke either). Well deserved Oscar win and damn I miss the heck out of him (oh what could have been?)
Hugh Jackman -
By all accounts he is regarded as one of the nicest/professional actors in the business. I became a huge fan of him after seeing him as Logan (aka Wolverine ) in those X- Men films. I know that in the actual comics that Wolverine is no where near over 6 feet tall (not even close) but damn I thought Hugh owned that role and embodied all of Wolverine's traits perfectly (the intensity , the anger and even his comedic timing was all on point) If Marvel does intend on recasting that role to someone else man are they gonna have big shoes to fill. Top 3 favorite performances by Hugh are Logan, The Fountain & Prisoners .
Jason Clarke -
Absolutely love this guy and am still trying to explore more of his performances/filmography. He is always reliable whether it be as a good guy or bad guy. Also, I will confess I had no clue that he was Australian for the longest time ( not sure if anyone here is a fan of the short lived show called Brotherhood but I thought it was highly entertaining and was very impressed with Clarke's American accent. He nailed it as a politician representing Providence, Rhode Island)
Eric Bana -
1st saw him in Andrew Domink 's Chopper film (highly recommend watching it if you can handle a dark/gritty prison setting). Bana wasn't fucking around there and continued to have a pretty impressive run in some big films over the years (Hulk, Troy, Munich & Star Trek) but his career has kinda slowed down recently. I hope he gets some more juicy roles in the near future.
Russell Crowe -
This Aussie actor had imo one of the most impressive runs over the years back in the late 90s to the early 2000s. I've really dug a ton of his performances / films over the decades he's been actively acting (my favorite performance/film featuring Crowe as a lead is still hands down Gladiator, followed by L.A. Confidential and The Insider)
Similar to Bana, his career has slowed down somewhat but I thought he was quite good in Noah & The Nice Guys in back to back years.
I wil add my favorite Australian actresses next in a bit (gotta go do some shit) but in the meantime feel free to add your all time favorites in this thread. Thanks!
