As for my thoughts, Neeson was solid as a Marlowe-esque character in A Walk Among the Tombstones, which would be a solid enough audition reel for something like this. Still, it's a shame Jordan didn't make this ten years ago with Stephen Rea.

I'm wondering if Neeson will be Marlowe-esque at all or just do his usual crime/action thing (which I love, tbh) here... i.e. Marlowe with an Irish Brogue (and alcohol problem).
Jordan directing and Monahan adapting definitely has me intrigued...
Would be the oldest Marlowe ever, and first Chandler adaptation in over 20 years. Will be very interesting to see how they go about this in the 2020s. Hopefully will be a better '50s-set noir than Motherless Brooklyn.

Have you read the source novel? Nope... I've only read the three most obvious Chandlers (Big Sleep/Long Goodbye/Farewell, My Lovely). Have you? I hadn't even heard of it, and it makes sense: it's not a Chandler original. It's Benjamin Black (a.k.a. John Banville, acclaimed Irish novelist), who apparently took on writing some Marlowe stories.

Wtf... I was wondering why it didn't sound familiar at all. Deadline really should have put that detail sooner in the article. But more importantly, are you ready for Widespread Panic next week? I didn't even know it was happening!

I'm in. Jordan is a great filmmaker. He hasn't been at his peak or even active in feature films much in recent years, but I don't see him as someone who has totally lost his touch. And Neeson is a wonderful actor (when pushed to be) with a great presence, so I could see this being much more interesting than some of his more recent action roles.

Give Liam Neeson an Oscar.

@viced, isn't this just making you crave a Dudley Smith spinoff show starring a pre-Taken Neeson?

I would be shocked if this didn't blow goats - faltering filmmaker, overrated and check cashing actor for a loooooooooooooooooooong time now somehow beating everybody up at 70 (and doing repeatedly, apparently)
