I have never seen an episode of The X-Files (science fiction just isn't my cuppa), so I suppose I was first "properly" introduced to her when I watched Terence Davies' beautiful adaptation of Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth and the 2005 BBC miniseries adaptation of Dickens' Bleak House. She gives absolutely beautiful performances in both. With her (probable) second Emmy win pending for The Crown, I'm definitely craving more of her work! I just checked out the BBC miniseries of Great Expectations in which she plays Miss Havisham from the library - planning on starting that tomorrow. More recommendations, please!

Her performance in The X-Files is legitimately all-time level stuff, and she transcends the genre, especially as the series flirts with different genres in itself. No one can call themselves a fan of Anderson without exploring the role that started it all.
The Fall is fantastic work from her, she is masterfully regal in Hannibal, and she does great work in what I've seen of Sex Education. It's also worth finding her Blanche Dubois online: she's titanic in it.

I certainly don't doubt that she's great as Scully, but I'm just loving this second phase of her career so much. Would you mind linking me to her Streetcar in a PM?

I know it's available for download via torrent, but I don't know where else it can be found to stream.

That is a gorgeous picture of her that I've never seen before. Nice find. As stephen mentioned, her work on The X Files is some legendary shit and her chemistry with David Duchovny is flat out awesome /entertaining stuff. But I might be biased cause I grew up on that show. You mentioned you are not a fan of science fiction stuff and I can understand (its not for everyone) but she is incredible on the show as the skeptical partner. I would like to see her in more films and working with bigger name directors in the future. Very talented actress!

Pretty much what stephen said. "X-Files" performance is incredible, as is her chemistry with Duchovny. "House of Mirth" is probably her best film performance but I love her in "Playing by Heart" and there is also nice supporting role in "The Mighty". She deserves a much better movie career but I'm loving the fact she's getting lots of great work on TV and constantly challanges herself with things like "American Gods" and "The Crown". Very deserved BAFTA nom for "Any Human Heart" also.

Very deserved BAFTA nom for "Any Human Heart" also. You think? I personally would have preferred a nomination for Kim Cattrall there - Anderson is good, of course, but that role was nothing more than a glorified cameo.

Not seen a lot of X-Files episodes but I find her a very good actress. Her acting and chemistry with Duchovny was really amazing.

Have any of my British friends seen The Crimson Petal and the White with Romola Garai? Anderson reportedly has a scene-stealing supporting role in it. I definitely want to check it out! sirjeremy ibbi LaraQ

I remember basically nothing about it other than everything looked very garish (in a good way). I wouldn't have even remembered she was in it if you hadn't just mentioned it. Garai was good though.

Hannibal all the way if you haven't watched it. She's not just a scene stealer, I'd call her a show stealer.

I like her... I've went thru some X Files, bc of this thread, but I think her better perfs came later. I haven't seen a lot... but she has an uncanny composure in Hannibal and Sex Education - used to freaky or funny means - and draws you in... like an iceberg.

@tyler - I don't really know her that well tbh - I would just say X-Files is like Twin Peaks Season 1 (aside from the pilot)....... Bo Burnham's Inside....... Star Wars (all of them)......Eyes Wide Shut..... Shawhshank Redemption........ Road to Perdition....... U2....... Led Zeppelin.......Bon Iver...... Julien FNCKING Baker etc.......on that looooooooooooong list of stuff everybody says is "brilliant" .................that I positively couldn't care less about....... Like her in Streetcar in the National Theater Live broadcast - I thought she played it differently and weirdly actually and it mostly worked in its own way.........like her in Hannibal....... liked her in Bleak House........basically I always like her although I haven't seen The Fall.... She is sexy beyond all belief .....

I definitely prefer it to Scorsese's The Age of Innocence as far as Edith Wharton adaptations go (looking forward to Sofia Coppola's The Custom of the Country!), and she's simply devastating in it. Her best film role, for sure.

I haven't followed closely the whole story, but why did she decide suddenly to drop out from the revival of The X-Files ??

I watched the pilot episode of The X-Files, guys! Hopefully a new fan in soon Keep watching and you'll end up seeing some of the most entertaining and creative television of all time; even if you won't like the main arc/wider mythology, those "Monster-of-the-Week" episodes may have things to entertain you since it's a show that expertly goes between genres; from comedy to horror to drama. Darin Morgan and Vince Gilligan-scripted episodes are particularly gold.

I think he means that Anderson has said that she's done and has no real interest in returning. Which is fair, because the revival series was really bad and not even Duchovny and Anderson's chemistry could save it.

I don't think they should make any more, either. 200+ episodes and 2 movies is plenty. They should just let it be at this point.

I don't think they should make any more, either. 200+ episodes and 2 movies is plenty. They should just let it be at this point. To be honest, they should've let it be after Series 7, when I feel both Duchovny and Anderson were checked out. There are some worthwhile episodes in there because the talent was still there, but you could tell both actors were looking to get out. That's why I think the Doggett/Reyes years should've kicked Mulder and Scully to the curb entirely; you could've kept going for years after that point, and Doggett and Reyes were good enough together that I think it would've sustained (think The X-Files: Special Victims Unit). But I think Chris Carter was afraid to take that big risk, and so he half-measured it by keeping those characters around far past their sell-by date. And the less said about The X-Files: I Want to Believe, the better.
