For discussion/predictions/hopefuls. Nominations are a month and a half away, July 13.
None of the award sites are predicting them but I hope to see Judy Davis (Ratched) and Holly Hunter (Mr Mayor). Iffy shows but they were bright. Davis has 12 unique Emmy noms at this point - idk if anyone has more than that, ever, and one more nom would put her surely ahead. Jean Smart might get two noms this year (Hacks, Mare of Easttown) which would bring her nom tally to 9 (tying the top tier gals: Glenn Close, Jessica Lange).
And I wonder who'll get more love - The Good Lord Bird or Underground Railroad.

I just started watching Mare of Easttown and would be shocked if Jean Smart doesn't get nominated. She deserves a win right now.

www.emmys.com/events/fyc/2021Link to the FYC screenings for Television Academy members..... upcoming and past stuff, interesting to see what eps the shows push. They picked the very worst Mr Mayor ep so there goes that.... they picked Ep5 for Mare of Easttown which is a good pick. Some shows here I never heard of.... a zombie covid comedy The Bite with Audra McDonald like what?

so presumably after the FYC events they'll release the performer ballots? Love keeping track of what's in play because the Emmys have such a weird eligibility schedule. And it's always interesting to see which actors get pushed and in what categories. For example last year's ballot was where I discovered that HBO submitted The Outsider as a drama series instead of a limited series... and Sex Education conspicuously went from being a drama in 2019 to a comedy (which is what it is) in 2020...
any day now, Emmys.

Here are Variety's ranked acting predictions for Limited Series/TV Movie........
No Kidman.... They have Hawke and Winslet/Anya Joy losing! exciting that Sutherland might actually (deservedly) win... and in that Supp Actor category I wanna see Shaun Parkes/Mangrove and especially Hubert Point-Du Jour/Good Lord Bird.... also shame Stateless didn't campaign, Blanchett deserves Supp Actress...
//
Joel Edgeton, The Underground Railroad Ethan Hawke, The Good Lord Bird Hugh Grant, The Undoing Bryan Cranston, Your Honor Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton
Thuso Mbedu, The Underground Railroad Kate Winslet, Mare of Easttown Anya Taylor-Joy, The Queen’s Gambit Michaela Coel, I May Destroy You Elizabeth Olsen, WandaVision
Bill Camp, The Queen’s Gambit John Boyega, Small Axe Chase W. Dillon, The Underground Railroad Daveed Diggs, Hamilton Donald Sutherland, The Undoing William Jackson Harper, The Underground Railroad
Julianne Nicholson, Mare of Easttown Marielle Heller, The Queen’s Gambit Kathryn Hahn, Wandavision Jean Smart, Mare of Easttown Letitia Wright, Small Axe Renée Elise Goldsberry, Hamilton

Nicholson v Hahn should be a fun race.

Nicholson v Hahn should be a fun race. Do not discount Smart here, either. She is an Emmy favorite and has been running hot the last few years and has something of a banner year with this and Hacks. Personally, I'd vote for Hahn. I loved Smart and Nicholson, but Hahn was just a supreme delight.

Now that The Good Place and Schitt's Creek are off the air, I can't think of any other comedy I watched besides Hacks.

Now that The Good Place and Schitt's Creek are off the air, I can't think of any other comedy I watched besides Hacks. Yeah I've only seen the HBOs Hacks and Flight Attendant (apparently campaigning Comedy?) - Showtime's Moonbase 8 (underrated, won't get a single nom) - and Mr Mayor (not really nom worthy for anything besides Holly). I reallllllllllly wish Netflix would put something out for Call My Agent S4 which is by far the best eligible Comedy.... they could easily get a Guest Actress nom for Sigourney Weaver if they wanted...

Kidman is obviously vulnerable to an snub/miss as her category is as usual the most stacked and she won't be a frontrunner to win (I can already hear the prayer circles for her to not get nominated by some of the usual suspects here. Don't worry guys, it'll probably happen ), but TV Line has her among their dream nominees for Best Actress In A Limited series for The Undoing. Also the likes of Kate Winslet for Mare Of Easttown and Elizabeth Olsen are among their dream nominees.

In case you guys don't now, performer ballot is up now. yeah the link on the Emmy site still isn't working for me, which is weird because the other ballots open up fine. Someone on GoldDerby shared the PDF via Google Drive and I snatched that shit up. Comedy is so dry this year. no Call My Agent btw, Mattsby. Not a single mention.

So..... the spectacular Sigourney Weaver in Call My Agent did not make the Guest Actress ballots, but some good news is Andie MacDowell in Mr Mayor did and yes her hair just dries like that. None of the Stateless actresses made it, so Netflix kinda balled up on some of their best works. Okay then. I think the most stacked category is Supp Actor in a Mini/Movie... so many good options. Also... how'd Amazon get away with sneaking their movies as TV Movies!

final predix/wishlist before the big night? I'm terrible at these but why not. ComedySeries: Ted Lasso (or Hacks?) Actress: Gotta be Jean Smart. Cuoco maybe has an outside chance but Hacks is fresher on the mind and Smart just dominates. Actor: Sudeikis or bust Supp. Actress: This is a weird one because Enbinder is co-lead and by virtue of her screentime she might take this, but I'm going with Waddingham for now Supp. Actor: Never can tell with these SNL nods, but of the rest of the field Goldstein seems likeliest to me DramaSeries: The Crown, with Pose as a possible upset for its poignant final season. Emmy does like to celebrate swansongs. Actress: Corrin Actor: O'Connor, but unless they give The Crown a full sweep this could be a chance to honor Porter (again) or newcomer Page. Supp. actress: Anderson hands down. Academy voters loooove Thatcher perfs. Supp. actor: Michael K. Williams Limited SeriesSeries: After its creative arts emmy dominance last week, I'm going with Queen's Gambit. They aren't over it. Actress: A nail-biter but I'm going with Winslet. Could still see Coel as an upset but I think this is between Winslet and Taylor-Joy. Actor: No idea... I guess I'll say Bettany. Odom Jr. could win in a weak field for a filmed play, and theoretically Grant could win but The Undoing is so last year's news. Supp. Actress: Hahn or Nicholson. I'll go with Hahn. Supp. Actor: It's gotta be Peters right? Hamilton complicates things. Would they really give it any acting wins? If so, maybe Diggs... but I'm sticking with Peters. Wishlist-- I physically need Corrin to win. O'Connor too but less intensely. -- It'd be super cool if Temple wins instead of Waddingham... just saying -- If Ted Lasso gets writing/directing wins, they should be for "Make Rebecca Great Again" which was the best ep of the season -- Handmaid's Tale goes home empty-handed -- Nicholson winning for Mare of Easttown. Girl has been putting in the work for yeeeears. About damn time she wins something. -- Coel getting a writing win for I May Destroy You. She deserves it. Give it to her.

I would be surprised if Ted Lasso didn't win best comedy. And you're right, I'm gonna raise your to a . If he wins tonight and I think he will, how sucky is it to put in that much work into acting, then die mere days before you win your first Emmy... and the kicker is that voting had already closed so it's not a sympathy win. UGH!!!!

But should have been Bill Camp.
