Ah man. I listen to the Blank Check podcast, and they just did Elaine May, so Grodin was well on my mind recently. He was fantastic in The Heartbreak Kid, but more often then not was the secondary / best friend. He practically stole the show in his Heaven Can Wait scenes, and of course Midnight Run. RIP!!!

RIP A sort of genius of exasperated subtlety - his scene of "I'll have the tea" in Midnight Run is a classic. In the last few years he popped up opposite DePac in The Humbling and The Comedian and looked frail but it was great to see him. This scene literally almost killed me when I first saw it - I literally had to run out of the room I was laughing so hard........

I am fucking heartbroken over this. One of the great comic legends of our time who never really got his due.
I've been looking for an excuse to rewatch Midnight Run. I just didn't want it to be because of this. (And Yaphet Kotto, too.)

The Heartbreak Kid is one of the GOAT comedic perfs, and a masterpiece. Also love Ishtar, Real Life, Midnight Run that I've seen dozens of times. And he was so welcome and wonderful in Louie not too long ago. Also often forget he's in Rosemary's Baby, the GOAT horror. He was an amazingly hilarious actor and could bring that out with as little as a glance. RIP ~

Aw, goddamn. Having just recently watched The Heartbreak Kid and Ishtar for the first time, Grodin's really been big in my mind lately. I'll have to finally get around to Midnight Run sometime soon (maybe tonight?) in his honor. RIP.

This appearance promoting Midnight Run is brilliant, hilarious, tense. All his mentions of De Niro had me on the floor - "He might even get work after this."

Loved growing up with him with the Beethoven movies, then discovering what a comedic genius he was over many years as I got older. I was ecstatic when he sort of resurfaced on Louie. Love this scene in particular.

Loved watching him in the The Great Muppet Caper, the Beethoven movies, & Midnight Run during my childhood.
Also can't forget the greatest cameo performance of all time courtesy of Mr. Grodin:

First time I saw him was in Beethoven when I was a kid. Really admired his work. I also liked him in It Runs in the Family, which no one ever talks about. I will miss him for sure.
