I guess I'll have to watch Live by Night now. Outstanding work.

Was that thumbnail randomly assigned or did you purposefully pick it because that's just good marketing . Jokes aside, very well put together video and I love the Hacksaw Ridge wins, they're mine too.

Hmh, never heard of Tower. I went to Texas though. Interesting. Did Linklater make this? Reads as pretty straightforward documentary of a true life event to be #1 of the year, but I guess we'll find out when I see it. The wins are strange, but fun. Never seen Hell or High Water, but I absolutely love when Jeff Bridges playing a western character. The Neon Demon looks a lot better when you see it on screenshots - the make-up and costumes look all nice. Affleck? Bold. Tower isn't a Linklater film, although the lead animator worked on both A Scanner Darkly and this. It does employ the rotoscoping technique he used to great effect, but personally I feel this is the best usage I've ever seen of that format. I will never understand the hate Live by Night got.

Haven't seen Live By Night yet, but thoughts on it? And why do you think it's as hated as it is?

Haven't seen Live By Night yet, but thoughts on it? And why do you think it's as hated as it is? I think it's sleek, slick, and strong. Affleck's direction gets better and better, and he really manages to make that era and aesthetic pop. None of the performances themselves are standouts, but it's a strong and consistent ensemble nevertheless. But I loved how immersive it was.

Definitely don't agree with all your picks, but this is an extremely well put together video. Huge props.

Interesting choices, for sure. Love your acting wins. And Tower is indeed a great film.

Semester is almost over, so hopefully I'll get to The Neon Demon, Live by Night, and Tower soon.

Love the acting wins minus Lee (haven't seen Neon Demon yet so I don't have an opinion). Interesting that you gave Hacksaw wins for both of the sound categories over the obvious choice Arrival.

I love Arrival's sound work and am delighted that it took home a prize for it, but Hacksaw is showier and feels more "obvious" in general, at least to me. Never bet against a war film with the Oscars in this regard.

Amazing! Bridges gives one of the finest performances of his career in HOHW, I agree with that win. Keep up the great work.

Great video! Beats the way the Oscar noms were announced haha. Surprised to see Live By Night as your director win. Where did it end up ranking in your top 10 of the year?
Does Tower not apply for animated feature for you...? Actually I'm not sure if I counted it, but I should've.

It's a tricky thing, Animated Feature. But I feel that Tower's animation being a post-production effect more than working in that medium from the ground-up made it feel separate (as I would with something CGI-heavy like Avatar).

Oooh, this is nicely done. That Abbey Lee win is and the Affleck BD win is inspired as fuck. Love that you managed to fit in the one frame Titus Welliver gets in the whole movie. You and CheeseCake really have me convinced I need to seriously look into Tower.

You and CheeseCake really have me convinced I need to seriously look into Tower. I know a lot of people loved Jena Malone, and rightly so, but The Dag walks away with that movie like no one's business. That lip twitch! There is supposed to be a longer cut of Live by Night, right? I mean, they wouldn't cast Titus Welliver for just that, right? And yeah, dude, Tower is a must.

It would make sense, as there was with The Town, though I wonder if we'll ever see it if the rumors are true about Live By Night's outcome being a big cause of discouragement in Affleck. Yeah, I thought Welliver was a cool choice, not only to keep up his streak of being in every Affleck movie, but also how Tim Hickey in the book played such a crucial role in Joe's upbringing in the crime world.

Your supporting actor win is absolutely horrendous.
