Well, it is that time again!!! Like last year, there will not be an actual poll until June. This thread will be used to establish the contenders for our first official poll. So below, please post what movie you think will win best picture next year.
Last Year’s Stats:
Nomandland showed up in our first official poll. Yeah, us. Congrats to Savanger and Danquixote for predicting it in March.
Nomandland didn’t appear in June’s poll.
Nomandland reappeared in September’s poll.
Nomandland become frontrunner in December’s poll and never looked back.

Nothing looks like an obvious winner so early but I'll go with Don’t Look Up. The most A-list cast in forever, strong environmental message, this might culminate the Academy's love affair with Adam McKay and they also might wanna go with something more mainstream after the last ceremony's backlash etc.

Unless we have another complete shutdown, I doubt the rules will be the same.

I'm going to say House of Gucci just because wouldn't it be the most fun Oscar season if it was really great? I want your love and I want your revenge........You and me could write a bad romance

Way too early. No obvious winners.
I'm pretty confident we don't even suspect the winner yet.

I called Nomadland way back in 2019 when we thought it was coming out then. Vindication!
I’ll be less NGNG now and say The French Dispatch.

I think it'll go to a bigger, studded movie.... Especially after the minor-stuff crop we just had. Could be a huge victory-lap year for Ridley.... so Gucci or Last Duel....? Wouldn't count out Northman, Nightmare Alley, the DOR, Blonde maybe....

The French Dispatch seems to be Searchlight's #1 horse, and you should never doubt them. TFD doesn't seem as Important as Nomadland - and this is a major factor nowadays -, but I can't think of anything that seems like the biggest combo of prestige + currentness.

Actually, because I'm reading the book, I don't see it as BP winner material. It's quite dark, and a horrorish-noir isn't what AMPAS goes for and wouldn't fare that well with #1 votes. It'll be a huge tech marvel tho.

Shape of Water too was too quirky on paper, and yet it won, i can absolutely see the AMPAS this time around embracing Wes Anderson if the film is Grand Budapest level great and giving him his due.

I was just arguing the view that Nightmare Alley might be too horror or different for AMPAs too embrace. The membership is growing by a lot so what might not have worked just a decade ago, might work in these times.
