IT'S THAT TIMEThe categories (with # of nominees): Best Picture (10) Best Director (7) Best Actor (7) Best Actress (7) Best Supporting Actor (7) Best Supporting Actress (7) Best Ensemble Cast (5) Best Original Screenplay (5) Best Adapted Screenplay (5) Best Cinematography (5) Best Production Design (5) Best Costume Design (5) Best Makeup and Hair-styling (5) Best Choreography (5) Best Visual Effects (5) Best Film Editing (5) Best Sound Editing (5) Best Sound Mixing (5) Best Original Score (5) Best Original Song (5) Best Documentary Film (5) Best Animated Film (5) Best Debut Feature (3) Performer of the Year (3) Best Soundtrack (3) Send your ballots via private message to me and DeepArcher . Your ballots need to be ranked. You can submit ballots with less than the category's number, or without certain categories other than the top 9. The eligibility period will be for the first theatrical release in the film's country (or one of its countries) of origin. Look on IMDb for that information. Since it was a goofy year with releases we can hold a separate poll for movies in question. TV movies are eligible. Miniseries are not. If you want to help with counting ballots or with the presentation (date tba) or if some wants to run the Top-50 poll please feel free to let me know. The voting period is open now, and will close on Monday, June 28thFeel free to post any FYCs in this thread. Happy Deliberations!

I might suggest having polls for people to vote on possibly altering some categories, as have been discussed in the past, i.e. removing the Foreign Language category or combining the Sound categories. (I might also suggest no longer having gendered acting categories, but I've a strong feeling this board will just not go for that. )

I specifically am holding off on my own lineups because there are a couple of films that are 2020 eligible that I want to see, because I got screwed over last year by missing out on a couple of really late-term releases. I will do my best to put together a ballot, but by no means will it be final.
Also, FYC Fanny Lye Deliver'd in all eligible categories, particularly Best Actor (Charles Dance), Best Actress (Maxine Peake), Best Costume Design and Best Cinematography.

some unsung tech heroes (as if Tenet was the only thing that dropped last year ): Love and Monsters for VFX (phenomenal creature and environment design, very Fallout aesthetic), sound, production design Project Power for VFX Extraction for choreo & sound (the fights in this were wild, and need I mention that one-take car chase?) Greyhound for VFX & sound and The Outpost for sound. The sound in this was incredible.

thanks Viced ! I certainly wouldn't call it unpleasant per se. it'll be pretty easy to keep up with this year, but extra help is always helpful. yeah regarding the top-50, if that doesn't get picked up by somebody than my guess is that will be the death-knell for our yearly top-50s. Also please note that I added DeepArcher to who you should also send ballots to.

I'm interested in helping out with the top 50 of the year poll if there's no issue.

does it even need to be said? FYC Ben Mendelsohn for his greatest performance to date in Babyteeth. It's soulful, devastating and deeply compassionate work

Screenplay for Another Round was originally written as a play. Said play was never produced. It was deemed Original throughout the entire Awards season. 8 people voted Adapted. 2 people voted Original in the other silly little thread.
These are the facts. You can make a decision yourself and vote how you want.

one last shout-out for Waiting for the Barbarians. This really is a fascinating film that doesn't get enough credit. A dissection of colonialism's always obvious and inevitable self-destructiveness, couched on the unnamed fringes of an unnamed empire with the threat of invasion looming constantly just over the horizon. Mark Rylance stands apart as the humane magistrate--a foil to the inherent barbarism of the world he inhabits. His performance is brilliant. Watch it for him but stay for the screenplay and Chris Menges' stunning cinematography and the detailed set design. FYC Best Picture Best Actor - Rylance Best Adapted Screenplay Best Cinematography Best Production Design

So is Quo vadis, Aida? a 2020 film?
I assume based on this from IMDB release dates that it is...10 October 2020 (Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Trying to prioritise what I watch before voting.
