The discussion on the Frances McDormand poll got me thinking deeper: Which of her Oscars would you give her? If you're not a fan, who do you prefer? It's an interesting question for me because I absolutely love all three performances, but also think all three are extremely competitive years. Currently, I do give McDormand all three wins, but I'm tempted to cheat and spread the love to Blethyn or Davis.

She's my win '96 & '17 (I love everything about both those 2 films) in 2020 she's 2nd among the nominees to me (Mulligan) .........but at best she'd be 4th in the year among those eligible ........ behind #1 Morfydd Clark in Saint Maud and #2 Azura Skye in The Swerve.........then Mulligan......so I voted "Other" there.......

Fran for the first two, Carey for the last. I've loved all of McDormand's nominated perfs except Nomadland, even North Country which people tend to forget.

She’s currently my 1996 winner for Fargo. I nominate her for Three Billboards, but I think Ronan is better from the nominees and Vicky Krieps is my winner.
NS Nomadland.

May I ask why you write "2020 other" instead of having fellow Oscar nominees Vanessa Kirby since all the other nominees are mentioned? The same goes for the other years too, but at least there you left off two nominees each year.
For 1996, I've only seen Frances but consider her brilliant and worthy but I don't doubt she had some stiff competition. I look forward to watching the other 4 nominees to see how they compare to her.
2017: It's easily Frances for me, both out of her fellow nominees and in general.
2020: Very tight race, I find Carey, Vanessa and Frances all worthy winners on their own (and in that order) but it's easily Carey for me (with Vanessa very close behind).

Strictly from the nominees:
1996 - Watson (an all time great turn) was the best but McDormand would be my #2
2017 - Hawkins is my favorite
2020 - McDormand was the best

Honestly was just lazy and figured most voters would go for one of those nominees, or for something that wasn't nominated at all (in which case, I couldn't going to list everything someone might like)

Out of the nominees : Emily Watson is my win in 1996, Frances is my win in 2017, that's actually among the very best performances of the century, I always liked and respected her as an actress but that performance made me a fan and she's superb in Nomadland and my win again which is extremely rare in such a short period of time, I have to go back to Gong Li at her Zenith in the early 90's for it to happens, so now I'm not only a fan but she's even avatar worthy.

I actually don't give McDormand any of her wins. Though 2017 is the only year where I don't think there was anyone so significantly better than her, that made the win questionable. I think this year, at least 3 of the nominees were better than Frances, and while I think she does very good work in Fargo, she beat an all-time great performance in Emily Watson's Breaking The Waves.

Actually, I tell a lie. Vicky Kreips in Phantom Thread for me crushed all the other lead actresses in 2017, and should have been nomimated and won. But of the ones who got nominated, McDormand was probably the 2nd best choice after Margot Robbie in I Tonya. And there was not much of a gap between them.
None of McDormand's winning performances feel so undeniable that they needed to win, but at the same time, she's such a likeable performer and all her winning performances are still "good,", that I can't hate on them. They just wouldn't have been my picks.

I thinks she deserves all of her 3 Oscars even if she wasn't my #1 pick in any of the years. She's a legend in my book.

Haven't seen Watson yet but Blethyn is my vote for that year as amazing as Franny is in Fargo. Her performance is Three Billboard is one of my favorite of all time and my second favorite win of the category of that decade. Highly deserved for Nomadland but I preferred Kirby, Carey and Davis more.
I would say she 100% deserved all three of her wins and they are all so varied.

Out of the nominees, in 2017. But in those particular years I prefer Emily Watson ( Breaking the Waves ), Juliette Binoche ( Let the Sunshine In ) and Morfydd Clark ( Saint Maud )

Haven't seen Mulligan and Day yet but I prefer McDo over Davis.
In 1996 and 2017, Frances is my win.

I haven't seen The Shape of Water, so I think that Blethyn and Mulligan were better in 1996 and 2020.- McDormand was better than Ronan in 2017. So for now is McDormand, any way I will not vote for her, because I haven't seen Hawkins.
Breaking the waves was a film hard to watch and never I've seen completely, however I vote for Blethyn because she was much better than McDormand, I also think that Madonna in Evita was also better than Frances.-
1996 was a great year for actresses (It wasn't like the Reese Witherspoon Walk the line bland year), so I guess McDormand didn't even deserve the Oscar nom. I cannot understand all the hype.

She's my win in 2017, but only my #3 in 1996 behind Watson and Blethyn. In 2020 Mulligan is the only nominee who makes my Top 5 (although I have Day in 2021).
