Here on Icelandic TV is just endless commercial about Húsavík, the town, during the break. I guess they're really trying to cash in on that Oscar nom, huh.

Man, they're really messing with the order of categories. Half expecting them to present documentary short or something as the last award of the night...

Ahmed's presenting best sound? And it wins best sound? Who would've saw that coming?

it's The Letter Room, not The Letter and this is a category where I really need those clips or at least pictures.

Ahmed's presenting best sound? And it wins best sound? Who would've saw that coming? It’s almost like the time that Guillermo del Toto presented the Best Director award to one of his three amigos, Alfonso Cuaron.

Yeah, let's not show clips of the nominated short films so people can check out which ones look interesting & they might want to look for. Let's show a bunch of people no one knows. This is...tough to get through.

Not a fan of Two Distant Strangers to be honest. The Letter Room was better alone.

They renamed sound mixing to just sound? They merged mixing and editing into one category I only learned the difference because of the Oscars and now they're trying to make me forget that they're totally distinct artforms.

Reese Witherspoon presenting best animated feature is fitting, given she's a cartoon rabbit.

It’s almost like the time that Guillermo del Toto presented the Best Director award to one of his three amigos, Alfonso Cuaron. To be fair, del Toro had won the year prior, so that wasn't out of the ordinary (Bong Joon ho presented Director tonight, and he wasn't even in LA). They do this a lot though-- I think they had Spielberg and Coppola present Scorsese's Oscar, for example, and I always think how awkward it would be if the predicted winner doesn't win.

They merged mixing and editing into one category I only learned the difference because of the Oscars and now they're trying to make me forget that they're totally distinct artforms. I listened to a good Podcast from the head Sound people at the Academy that gave a good defense of the change. Since editing and mixing have become such a blended team effort as technology developed, it's become weird when a movie wins one but not the other, even though often the participants are actually all working together the whole time. Six people still get sound Oscars, but now it's guaranteed the whole team wins (or loses) together.
