More good box office numbers for Godzilla Vs. Kong. Glad to finally have an eventful weekend again. This movie will be the true test for same-day releases. So far, so good. Is this the highest grossing movie (domestic) released during the pandemic?

Is this the highest grossing movie (domestic) released during the pandemic? In terms of opening weekend, it will be. It still has to pass Tenet and The Croods 2 however, which it will be do rather easily.

Estimates are in. Kong nearly make 50m for the five day total, although that Saturday number sounds a bit lowballed. Looks like theaters aren't dead just yet.

Godzilla vs. Kong coming for them Oscars!!! For real though, it MUST get nominated for VFX and especially Sound. I've been rewatching some of the fight scenes just for the pleasure of hearing the sound design - the amazing effects, the wild mix. The first Godzilla movie of this MonsterVerse was criminally snubbed in these categories but I hope this one is not forgotten come awards time next year.

Actuals are a bit down, but that's okay, since the number is still big given the circumstances.

Godzilla probably wouldn't even show up. When you're the apex predator you don't need validation from others with awards shows.

Globally it's nearing 400m worldwide. Highest grossing major Hollywood film of the pandemic era, bar-none.

It wasn't Nolan's fault, WB gave him the latest release date possible and he agreed with it. Plus if they made Tenet a simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max release Nolan would've gone on a legal war with them, theatrical results be damned. Not to mention European numbers would've been very limited and that was one of its stronger territories.
