Hopefully we are finally looking at Emmy and SAG wins for OC. Not that awards are incredibly important (great art is its own reward).

It is really weird that she has never won an Emmy, as I do think she is most widely known for her work in TV... We'll see!

Colman winning an Emmy seems a given at this stage, it just depends on what she does. What I'm interested in is whether she returns to the theater. She's an Old Vic graduate and she's done notable work in the past before her breakout.

America has embraced her so fully, I would hope she would come to Broadway. Definitely a contender for your awesome thread, pacinoyes.

I know I've definitely talked about her in the past on that thread.

Colman winning an Emmy seems a given at this stage, it just depends on what she does. It's not some guarantee that she wins an Emmy. Some of the most iconic television performers never won Emmys. Steve Carrel, Larry Hagman, Hugh Laurie, Angela Lansbury, Jackie Gleason, Michael C Hall etc. And these are people who have been far more impactful on American television than Colman. Not saying she won't or can't win an Emmy if the right role resonates, but it's not like she's some US TV legend they will be aghast about never rewarding. Also depends on the categories she's competing in. Things like Best Actress In A Limited series or Best Actress In A Drama tend to be insanely competitive, and those are the categories she looks like she'll be competing in for her TV work going forward. Even a co-star like Emma Corrin is standing in her way at award shows for things like The Crown.

She is, but you know when Broadway comes back they are going to need star driven pieces so in a way Broadway will beckon more than it might have prior - it's almost supportive of the entire cause to do Broadway when it reopens and I suspect we'll not only see a lot of transfers between London to New York but things that would have gone to BAM going to Broadway.........for a while at least

It's staggering that the same actress can do Broadchurch, Fleabag, Twenty Twelve, The Crown and The Night Manager (and in such a short spree, too!), and now this. Colman is becoming one of the most in-demand performers right now, and what helps her is that she doesn't necessarily get stuck in the rut of long-running series, which I think is really what hurt a lot of the performers you listed.

Again, Best Actress In A Limited series is probably the most consistently competitive acting category at the Emmys every year. It's usually made up entirely of Oscar winners/nominees and critical darlings. No one has any special advantadge in that category, and voters really do need to think you gave the best performance (as the likes of Amy Adams and Cate Blanchett found out when they were mistakenly installed as Emmy favorites). If Colman ends up in that category, it's the equivalent of "the Group Of Death" in a sporting tournament. It's very easy to lose. And it looks like she's already lost her shot with The Crown.I understand your logic and I don't write off her ever winning an Emmy, but she now mostly competes in categories where it's really hard to win. I can see her going empty handed a lot.

Guests (comedy and drama), supporting categories, animated categories, miniseries/movie categories, drama and comedy leads... And Colman has already shown that she's open to doing all of those.

Well that is the caveat...the categories she is competing in. She's already lost in what on paper are seen as "easier" supporting actress categories (comedy and limited series). Since then her star and profile has risen, and it looks like for the foreseeable future, she'll be doing leading roles in TV, which will make winning even harder.

She's already lost in what on paper are seen as "easier" supporting actress categories (comedy and limited series). Since then her star and profile has risen, and it looks like for the foreseeable future, she'll be doing leading roles in TV, which will make winning even harder. Well, she lost to Emmy darling Regina King the first time she was up, and she was in a possible vote-split situation with Sian Clifford in the Fleabag year (personally, as much as I love Colman, that was Clifford's Emmy and I feel a lot of people who saw Fleabag might've actually been divided on whom they preferred) while Alex Borstein rode the Mrs. Maisel wave to a second consecutive victory. Two Emmy losses, one before her Oscar win, don't really spell any sort of hindrance for her. The Emmys are capricious at times, I won't deny that, and just because you are an A-lister doesn't mean you are guaranteed a win . . . but you are given an advantage in terms of profile. And now she's doing a prestige project for HBO, which David Thewlis is calling one of the best projects he's ever been attached to (and that's a dude who knows quality). There's reason enough to be optimistic that Olivia Colman could conceivably win an Emmy.

I wasn't aware this was coming out this year! Double dose of Colman in December with this and The Lost Daughter. Looks atmospheric, well acted and fun.

Had no idea this was created by Colman's husband, Ed Sinclair! All other power couples step aside - this looks great.

Going back through some of this thread is fun, now that Colman does in fact have an Emmy.

Going back through some of this thread is fun, now that Colman does in fact have an Emmy. To be fair, no one was expecting her to win at that particular time.
