Too many but one wildcard Brando, Olivier, Bogart.Bergman, Garbo, Hepburn, MsMovieStar but always my wildcard love will be Veronica Lake who couldn't really act but I loved her- has the saddest career descent ever - started in the movies gorgeous and fun at 17 and by 22 looked like alcohol had knocked her upside the head. Makes me want to give up booze - "please don't ask me about my liver" as Westerberg says I've posted this before - the sexiest scene ever - she was around ~19 here pre-booze - viva The Golden Age and don't get old: buys HIM breakfast, gives HIM a cigarette, refuses to be paid back - what a woman! - mocks what she has to do in this toxic male patriarchy too (um) Mr. Smearcase!

Men: +1 on Monty Clift and Burt Lancaster. I'll also add Robert Mitchum. Yum. Jimmy Stewart is great, too.
Women: Always loved Deborah Kerr.

Mattsby - I feel that once you finally see Show Boat, Mogambo, Bhowani Junction, and On the Beach, Ava will definitely crack into your Top 100...

Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney, Cary Grant, William Holden, Edward G. Robinson, Fredric March, and Claude Rains for me. James Stewart is obviously fantastic as well. Also love the horror stars Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney Sr. & Jr., Price, & Lorre.
For females, it's 100% Barbara Stanwyck.

Always loved her, but recently, I'm really big on Barbra Stanwyck as my go-to golden-age actress. She holds up.

Her untaught naturalism has aged extremely well, immune to changing modes of performance.

Barbara Stanwyck in Baby Face was everything. I think she's one of the best actresses ever anyway and I'm kind of obsessed with this pre-code (!) film for many reasons. Also, at her bashing his ass with the beer bottle and then nonchalantly having her own drink after. That's my girl.

One thing is being movie stars actors And other is a movie star.-
For example nowadays The Rock is a huge movie star, while Ryan Gosling is a well paid Academy Nominee actor who had the lead in several critically or commercial succesful movies.- Unfortunately I have no proof who where trully movie stars and who weren't.
I guess Garbo, Dietrich, Monroe, Davis, Hepburn, Gaarland were. I'm not sure that Leigh was.- I guess Gable, Fairbanks Sr, Grant, Bogart, Wayne were. I'm not sure if Brando or Jimmy Stewart were.-
So I cannot mention a favorite.-
