Wouldn't surprise me if some aspiring actors found his performance inspiring and used some of his monologues from Capone in their classes. Genius or insane Absolutely insanity, and you know that some filmbro dude somewhere is basically doing an Al Capone impression like a cartoon character. Youtube Acting 101..LOL As far as people who were nominated, I feel a little bad for Anne Hathaway..I like her as an actress, but man she's had a rough few years in her career.

I actually enjoyed her in The Witches the movie was fine too, but yeah she's been chosing some weird projects. Like I'm sure The Hustle looked like a fun project on paper, but then things like Serenity and Locked Down? What's going on with you miss?!

I understand her not wanting to turn down Zemeckis and Dee Rees but doing another Steven Knight script ("Locked Down") right after "Serenity" was a... choice. I hope she'll be more selective in the future as I like her a lot.

Hathaway's biggest problem is that she's approaching the age where an actress's bankability starts to wane and roles are going to be getting sparser and sparser, and so she's taking the shotgun approach of just throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks. Some of the projects on paper sound like they'd work ( Ocean's 8, for instance) and I think that as bizarre as Serenity is, the role pitched to her would be something that would interest an actress who usually isn't considered for femme fatale types. It's unfortunate that everything has kind of failed her of late, but I get why she's done these roles and worked with these people.

I don't consider Hathaway that interesting an actress in the first place. She found the golden role with Fantine, but other than that, she doesn't have much charisma, and even when she's lead she's often overshadowed, like in The Devil Wears Prada. The one performance where I felt that she could become a very good actress was Rachel Getting Married.

The one performance where I felt that she could become a very good actress was Rachel Getting Married. Each to their own but I love how she has that movie star charm which shines in things like "The Intern" and yet at the same time, how she refused to stick to these type of movies and always challenged herself, by doing indies like "Rachel" or successfully handling an iconic character in "Dark Knight Rises". Even doing "Love & Other Drugs" was kind of a risky move for an actress best known for things like "Ella Enchanted". I also like her a lot as a musical actress and her performance in "Modern Love" was fantastic as well. Sure, she's overshadowed in "Prada" but it has more to do with the writing because she can leave an impression with a supporting part (that phone call scene in "Brokeback") and can steal the show in an ensemble film like "Ocean's Eight" with her comic timing. Again, I believe it's all about finding the right material.

I actually think Hathaways has been delivering good work steadily these days. Unfortunately, she's either overlooked, or in something itself bad. She was great in Modern Love, but the show wasn't a hit and her Emmy campaign (which should've been an easy win) was a tragedy. She stole the show in Ocean's 8 and I thought she was genuinely good in Locked Down, even if those movies are just middling/okay. Even in The Last Thing He Wanted, she wasn't bad. Haven't seen The Witches nor Serenity, and I don't plan to.
I think there are some roles Amy Adams and Jessica Chastain, to cite some in her age range, did as of lately and she could've pulled off as well.

Hathaway is an excellent actress and a truly charasmatic screen presence who unfortunately keeps picking poor material to showcase herself. I never actually find her bad in anything I see her in, even if the film sucks. She doesn't neccesarily elevate everything, but she rarely goes down with the ship either.
Seriously, go back and read the reviews for Oceans 8. For critics at least, she comfortably stole the show from both Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett, two of the most respected and charasmatic screen presences going.

Though this doesn't mean a whole lot as far as actual perception goes, she also had a pretty consistently good strong track record at the box office as far as wide-releases were concerned. Even before the supposed "backlash", for a while there she was seemingly well-liked by a lot of females. Personally I think she's a very charming actress, who unfortunately has had a string of bad luck choices recently.
