A TIFF audience award would be huge for this film.

From Fncking Ruimy - who is Hitler btw and Fncking is his first name.....um.......so any AW sheeple have some tea to spill so I don't have to quote him when updates this thing? I’ll be updating this post when I get the two reactions I was promised later this morning, but, suffice to say, Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans” test-screened last night in a Nanuet, New York multiplex. All reactions I’ve gathered have been raves. Michelle Williams being cited as a Best Supporting Actress nominee seems to be a thing among those who attended. An Immensely personal, very Jewish-centric, statement from Spielberg about his love for cinema and the anti-semitism he had to face in school.

It’s funny (in a refreshing way) that Spielberg went from never directing an Oscar winning performance, and in the span of a decade, might just go on to direct 4.

Would make sense for Lynch to play Ford, or a Ford-esque figure, if Spielberg recreates this great story. Imagine Lynch delivering that final line. I could instantly envision him in this scene the way Spielberg describes Ford. Had a Reddit PM exchange and they confirmed that Lynch is playing Ford and pretty much does this scene as Spielberg describes it word for word, including the last line. Their one PG-13 "fuck". Crowdpleaser. Performance praise singled out Michelle Williams as MVP, and Judd Hirsch who is apparently also in just one scene but he basically takes over the movie for 5 minutes and this was their favorite thing in the movie, comedic scene. He plays Spielberg's maternal great-uncle. Overall described the movie as a pretty lighthearted coming-of-age movie above all. They said they were reminded of Licorice Pizza.

TIFF description pulled from Jordan Ruimy's site - but I assume he didn't make it up and stuff - he's so horrible! (sarcasm, what I'm not supposed to post this.........pfffft)
Today TIFF announced that “The Fabelmans” will have a whopping 5 public screenings during the festival, they also released synopsis/thoughts on Spielberg’s autobiographical film:
“Steven Spielberg comes to the Festival for the first time with his most personal film yet. The Fabelmansfinds the director reflecting on the experiences that made him the filmmaker we know and love, in a story based on his childhood in Arizona.
“Gabriel LaBelle gives a breakout performance as the teenage Sammy Fabelman, always desperate for a new piece of gear so he can make ever-bigger movies with his friends. Michelle Williams is the heart of the story as Sammy’s encouraging mother, a skilled pianist. She brings life to their household, a fact Mr. Fabelman (Paul Dano), a computer engineer, finds as enchanting as he does discombobulating. Their family is rounded out by his loveable co-worker Benny (Seth Rogen), who becomes an uncle to Sammy and his sisters, always along for the ride with the Fabelmans. This unique combination of parental figures eventually becomes a source of tension with Sammy at the centre, and that seeps into his creative work.”
“Instead of chasing sharks or running from giant boulders, Spielberg has Sammy navigating the interpersonal landmines of home and school life, in what may be the most emotionally expansive film of his career. Starting with gunslingers and war stories, the way any Boy Scout in the late 1950s might, Sammy/Spielberg shows us not only what sparked Spielberg’s love for cinema, but also how empathy and human relationships have sneaked their way into the work of this master filmmaker.”

I can't get over the monkey sitting on Paul Dano... Kinda sorta hope that it's just a TIFF poster, not like a proper 'put it in all theatres' one.

I was just really surprised to see this image on the poster

One of the few trailers where all the allusions to light - not just projectors light either btw - but light in all its forms, even spiritual light - makes perfect narrative sense with Williams as "his light" .......and not just a stylistic choice ........pretty terrific trailer. Not seeing the Licorice Pizza side of this tbh - but maybe that's just not in the trailer and not a lazy, inaccutate Twitter-age shorthand........although what's funny is Licorice Pizza is like his buddies film (American Graffiti) .............to me anyway .....

Yep, like I said, Michelle's to lose. People adored Spielberg's mom.
