EXCLUSIVE: Mateo Zoryon Francis-DeFord, Keeley Karsten, Birdie Borria, Alina Brace, and Sophia Kopera join the cast of Steven Spielberg’s next film The Fabelmans, based loosely on his childhood. Francis-Deford will play the young, aspiring filmmaker at the center of the story in his very early years, with the other actors portraying his siblings at various stages of their lives. They join an A-list cast that includes Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Gabriel LaBelle, Judd Hirsch, Sam Rechner and Oakes Fegley.
The script has been co-written by Spielberg and Tony Kushner. The film is being produced by Spielberg, Kushner and Kristie Macosko Krieger.deadline.com/2021/08/amblin-steven-spielbergs-semiautobiographcial-1234819693/

Lynch should play the EXACT same character from Lucky talking about his turtle tortoise. Or the weird neighbor who is always critical of Mrs. Fableman's coffee...........character name (Judge) Raymond Bean

Would make sense for Lynch to play Ford, or a Ford-esque figure, if Spielberg recreates this great story. Imagine Lynch delivering that final line. I could instantly envision him in this scene the way Spielberg describes Ford.

Any kind of David Lynch involvement brings the projected rating for a project up by at least 1 1/2 stars. Although he is a weird choice for Ford, completely polar opposites.
Maybe I'm remembering someone else but didn't Lynch make catty comments on Spielberg at one point? I just assumed he was not a fan.

Not impossible but I also think directors understand each other and Lynch seems like the kind of guy who would be touched by the request. He's good Ford casting in the sense that he can do ornery and he's one of a few vets who an aspiring teen filmmaker would find both thrilling and scary as fuck to meet.

After watching some interviews I’ve noticed that Lynch both looks and especially sounds like Ford. I’m assuming that’s why he was cast.

Indeed not a surprise but still very much a comfort and something I just waited to see confirmed. Feels weird that it's gonna be the first Williams/Spielberg score in five years! But I can't wait to hear it. Even though Spielberg had to go with a few other composers for a couple of his recent projects, a movie about his childhood simply HAD to be composed by Williams and Williams only.

That's crazy that it'll be almost five years since The Post. Think the previous longest gaps before had all been ~3.5 years (between Schindler-Lost World, Indy 4-Tintin/War Horse, and Lincoln-BFG)
But yeah this one in particular would have felt kinda dirty without JW, very appropriate subject to have in the sunset of their collab. Their 29th movie together, would love a 30th <3

I'm not always excited by Spielberg film announcements (I respect him - just not always checking for him these days) but the idea of him going back to his childhood interests me. The David Lynch as John Ford casting is everything. He actually does resemble him.

Super 8 was a faithful adaptation of Spielberg's life and no one can convince me otherwise.
