Figured this is going to be a huge deal obviously and there was a development today where "3rd Degree Murder" was added to the counts against Derek Chauvin. Might be appealed causing a delay and the other officers are tried separately from Chauvin. If not appealed his trial starts March 8th. The Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled Friday that a trial judge was wrong to refuse prosecutors' request to add third-degree murder against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who is scheduled to be tried next week in the killing of George Floyd.
The court ruled that its Feb. 1 ruling in an unrelated third-degree murder case is precedential, and overturned a ruling by Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill that denied charging Chauvin with the count. The case has now sent the case back to Cahill, who previously said the decision was not precedential, for consideration of adding the charges.

Starts tomorrow if they don't appeal the 3rd degree murder charge - Court TV will air LIVE. Court TV will televise the trial live, and reports indicate it’s likely to be among the most closely watched legal events in recent US history. Minneapolis and cities around the world saw sometimes violent protests and looting in the wake of Floyd’s death.
Minneapolis has been barricading and boarding up in anticipation of the trial. Protests at the governor’s mansion in St. Paul occurred yesterday, with more protests planned for Sunday and Monday outside the Minneapolis courthouse.
One possible delay stands in the way of Monday’s start to the trial. A state appellate court ordered a lower court judge to revisit his decision to drop third-degree murder charges against Chauvin. A guilty verdict on that charge, which alleges someone acted “without regard for human life,” carries a sentence of up to 25 years.
As of now, Chauvin faces charges of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Three other officers present at the scene, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas K. Lane and Tou Thao, face charges of aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter. They will be tried in the summer. deadline.com/2021/03/george-floyd-murder-trial-stars-monday-televised-by-court-tv-1234708616/

3rd degree murder charge will stand as one of the counts in the trial: The third-degree murder charge, sometimes known as "depraved mind" murder, was most recently used in the trial against former Minneapolis Police officer Mohamed Noor. He was convicted of the charge after prosecutors said he fired his gun at a person outside of his squad car's window, killing Justine Ruszczyk and endangering his own partner.www.cnn.com/2021/03/11/us/derek-chauvin-george-floyd-charges/index.html

I like how regardless of how you feel about George Floyd’s murder everyone agrees that chauvin’s gotta take one for the team and go to jail. We ain’t doing another summer of riots, no thank you

I haven't paid too much attention, but from what I've seen, there is no way that you could find Chauvin not guilty of manslaughter, at the very least. There was absolutely no call to stay on the man, and every call to begin applying medical services to him. Since I haven't followed the medical testimony at all, I can't speak for murder - as I believe in the presumption of innocence.
I did find it a bit funny and a bit scummy that the defense tried to say that Floyd told officers that "I swallowed too many drugs" in one body cam video, while an observer's video captured Floyd's speaking very clearly as "I ain't done no drugs." Like, it's gonna get shot down immediately, it just makes you look like a scummy bastard.

Only in America do you do breaking news of a cop killing a child that interrupts coverage of another cop on trial for killing a black man. Amazing.

There's some e-girl's post gaining attention on twitter, who obviously lied about being apart of the jury because they were tweeting throughout the week.
Maybe the oddest lie I've seen in recent memory lmao, what would you even get out of pretending about this?

They shouldn’t even try to appeal this. Seen lots of ppl, you can guess who, saying that sending him to jail regardless of whether he’s guilty or very fucking guilty to appease the mob is wrong bc on strictly legal terms he probably should’ve been acquitted. Not exact words, basically just paraphrasing the random shit that’s still in my memory from tweets I read hours ago. Ok yea no considering the guy was literally pleading for his life and the cop wouldn’t get off him I think we can appease the mob in this case no matter how compelling the defense may be. We’re not doing more riots
And lmfao @ Nancy pelosi’s comments. Thank you George Floyd for sacrificing your life for justice? That dude didn’t sacrifice his own life, his life was sacrificed by that cop. Mayor of Minneapolis got in on it too. White liberals showing off their inherent racism yet again celebrating a black man’s murder

They're talking about it like it's a TV episode and they like the ending. Floyd was a real guy who died, this was not entertainment. While it is obviously good Chauvin is going to jail it would have been better if this just didn't happen at all so there is nothing to be "happy" about here. The activist left makes everything about how they feel instead of the actual people.

You just know everyone's doing it for their own image and PR. The worst was still the mayor crying over the casket. Dunno if I've seen anything as pathetic and phony. Damn leeches.

while I agree some of the responses have been in bad taste, you gotta understand that cops historically NEVER get held accountable for killing black and brown people or using excessive force or abuse (something like 1% are convicted and now Chauvin is in that elite group), so it's not surprising to me that some people might be "happy" about this verdict because it's a needle in the justice haystack but at least it's something. And hopefully, it's a shock to the policing system that affects real change. If that turns out to be the case, Floyd wouldn't just be another dead black man, because that's what happens to so many POC victims of police brutality--they're forgotten and nothing changes. That doesn't diminish the horror of that situation or what his family went through. No one should've gone through that, but people DO go through that (Daunte Wright's family is going through the same thing right now) because that's the country we live in, and now maybe (huge maybe) that can change. At least it's a step in the right direction which is the bare minimum for a system that so often lets these guys off. I can't fault people for finding a silver lining in that...
