I'm curious to know who you prefer more as an actor. I'm a huge fan of both of them. They are around the same age & both talented as hell (both have been nominated for multiple Oscars and have 1 win each which is also impressive)

As an actor, I think Del Toro is far and away better than Pitt. Pitt's big hindrance as an actor, for me, is that I feel like if he isn't given a proper character to play (that is, with defining traits and characteristics he can mine) and has to rely on his general presence to anchor a movie, he can be rather staid. Del Toro, for me, is incapable of being staid. I also think if you swapped Del Toro and Pitt in their respective filmographies, Del Toro would come out ahead far more than Pitt.

I find Pitt much more entertaining and interesting as an actor and as a screen presence.

That this is even a comparison is borderline insulting to BDT. It's not close. Pitt's got a couple really good performances but BDT has been consistently excellent through his whole career.

I love Del Toro, magnetic on screen but often plays the scruffy tough character in his mannerisms. This is no slight on his acting but I am more intrigued by Brad Pitt as an actor who has great screen presence and anchors each character he plays uniquely.

This is an interesting question. Benicio in Traffic is incredible and trumps Pitt in anything for me, including his superb Moneyball performance. But after that, while Benicio is a more reliably imaginative actor, Pitt has seized on better opportunities, and against many odds grown to become a very strong actor. I think Benicio has more natural ability, but Pitt's going to have one of the greatest "learned onscreen how to act" filmographies.

I agree with futuretrunks, Del Toro is probably the more naturally gifted and even more interesting actor of the two but Pitt, a fine actor himself, due to all his opportunities, was able to creates a greater body of performances/characters. Overall Talent Vs Overall Achievement... I tend to go with the later in this kind of thread, so I vote for Pitt.
And Cranly wrotes an amazing post on Del Toro Birthday's thread about how unlucky he has been with projects/roles during his career.

Del Toro and it's not really close. I'll also take peak Del Toro on the looks front even if he always had nightcrawler vibes.

Del Toro has Things We Lost in the Fire and Che which destroys anything Pitt has in a leading role.
In a supporting role Pitt is better with 12 Monkeys, Burn After Reading, and Inglorious Basterds.
I say Del Toro, because where Del Toro destroys Pitt in a leading role, Pitt is only better than Del Toro in supporting roles but he doesn't exactly destroy him.

If this was 2004 I'd say Del Toro hands down but it's not. He had higher highs but much fewer of them. Pitt is fresher on the mind coming off a strong decade so he gets my vote. Del Toro isn't even on my radar anymore.
