I'm currently reading Art Spiegelman's Maus and many different parts of it of course are reminding me of a number of Holocaust films.
In addition, though, I'm trying to think of films that compare in the sense of the son trying to understand his father's story and the intergenerational trauma. I'm sure there are a number of similar films, like: Big Fish Honey Boy Nebraska Beginners Fences Road to Perdition The Godfather Ordinary People
What are some other great ones, particularly any based on/inspired by real families?

The Judge John Q Life Is Beautiful Fences Kramer vs. Kramer In the Name of the Father
Plus, not a conventional one but... Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.
And a huge HM to Charlie Chaplin's The Kid, although it's not about a troubled father/son relationship and, you know... he's not the real father.

I'll give a shout-out to a small Italian film called Along The Ridge (Italian title: Anche libero va bene). Not an easy watch, but it still deserves an audience.

Some other films not mentioned that I like.
The Son (2002) Finding Nemo Brad's Status World's Greatest Dad Frequency - Massively underappreciated film, extremely touching. John Q A Goofy Movie - Okay I'm semi-joking here, but still I love the movie, and as a father and son movie it works so well.
