Which ChloƩ Zhao movie did you like more?
For me they're both of a piece. I consider them equally excellent. "The Rider" moved me more while "Nomadland" felt like a bigger journey, but all in all I think these are films that stand immensely close to each other. I give a slight edge to "The Rider" overall.

I really need to re-watch The Rider, because I loved Nomadland, but I remember The Rider boring me to tears.

My personal preference is for The Rider, but it's so close as to be almost negligible. I do think that what propels The Rider ahead is Brady Jandreau's haunting performance, which is testament not just to his innate talent (seriously, get this kid a role in an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's Cities of the Plain) but also to Zhao's unique strength at coaxing herculean work from non-actors.

Not crazy about either of them but Nomadland is a bit better.

The Rider by a lot
Tho....I think Songs My Brothers Taught Me remains arguably her best.

one of the most disappointing things about Nomadland were my expectations relative to how much I adored The Rider. That being said, who would've thought after watching that beautiful little movie two years ago that Zhao's next would be an Oscar frontrunner?? Super happy for her.
