Regina King will be playing Shirley Chisholm, America's first black congresswoman and first black presidential candidate in a film written and directed by John Ridley, Oscar winnning screenwriter of 12 Years A Slave and showrunner of Emmy Winning show American Crime.
Could potentially be King's second Oscar, and first Best Actress Oscar. She has really become one of the most prestigious and respected performers in Hollywood, so if the project delivers, she'll definitely be a big threat to win again

There was already a biopic called Shirley that came out last year Change the title, dawg. Apparently this is not the same Shirley Chisholm movie Danai Gurira is set to star in (where she replaced Viola Davis). Chisholm was already featured in Mrs. America in Uzo Aduba's Emmy winning turn. I'm not sure what this will add? But ok. Neither Regina King, Danai Gurira (or especially Viola Davis) or Uzo Aduba look anything like her nor do I think they can do the voice but I hope to be proven wrong.

You get multiple biographical projects about important historical figures all the time. Do we really need another Marilyn Monroe film in Blonde after My Weekend With Marilyn? Maybe not, but we are getting one. We are literally getting Princess Diana getting played by 3 seperate actresses ( Emma Corrin, Elizabeth Debecki and Kristen Stewart) in multiple projects within 18 months. I don't really think we have reached Shirley Chisholm overload. Uzo Aduba winning an Emmy for an ensemble/supporting role for a project that was really about a conservative white woman played by Cate Blanchett, does not mean Chisholm doesn't merit a feature film that is actually about her, and allows her life to be fully explored in a way something like Mrs America doesn't allow. I'm pretty sure that a film that is designed to be all about Shirley Chisholm, can add a lot, as opposed to her being a supporting role in someone else's series.

I’m fine with this project so not disagreeing with your viewpoint. Just calling out that Corrin and Debicki are portraying Princess Diana as part of the same project, just in different time periods, but the Stewart project vs The Crown is a very apt comparison to this vs Mrs. America.

She only stars in one episode and makes very slight appearances in a couple others. On the other hand, The Crown S4 was the Diana & Charles show. They're borderline leads (I think they are leads) and much of the season's drama revolves around their relationship. already posted twice on this point so I'll see myself out. Just wanted to voice my support for more Chisolm content. Aduba set a damn high bar but I can't wait to see what King brings to this civil rights icon.

Fair enough, I’m still finishing up season 3 so was speculating a bit on the ensemble nature of the series.

This looks.... pretty good. And Regina King looks like she's doing some Academy Award level thesping. Not sure about that release date though.

I think this is going to be pushed for the Emmys instead with that date. It says "Only on Netflix" at the end of the trailer, but usually for their Oscar plays they say "In select theaters and on Netflix" at the end. Even Rustin got that.

Looks pretty good. I used to have such a crush on Regina King in the 90s. hehe. But anyway, she looks like she's doing her thing here as Shirley Chisholm. I'm in.
