Chéreau's first English-language feature - winner of the Golden Bear and starring Mark Rylance, Kerry Fox (Silver Bear for Best Actress), and Timothy Spall. Please, share your thoughts on this (controversial) film.

The unsimulated aspect of it feels so much like a stunt and it sort of overwhelms the rest of the movie, which is a shame, because Rylance and especially Fox are doing some fascinating and compelling work.

Idk why Rylance and Fox agreed to actually fuck each other for this film lol.

Patrice Chéreau dreamed FOR YEARS of making a Napolean film with Pacino - he came THISCLOSE to doing it - and he knew AND directed Huppert so don't f'n tell me the 2 GOAT actors haven't "met" and they couldn't have starred together which I have now waited 173 years to see while fighting off the haunting specter of my own Death!
Wait........What was my point?
Right ......Intimacy, um, it's a hit or miss movie - the way it's shot is actually fascinating allowing us to get closer as they get closer and distancing us at other times as they distance- it's a very invasive camera.
I have soured on Mark Rylance's 2 turns this year - I liked them - skillful but with reservations........I think the joy has gone out of his acting a bit (still love him) ........however here that "joy of performance" is quite evident - the booze, the sex, the profanity, class/status and the exotic aspects of this seemingly non-exotic man.......stuff he didn't often play then either ........and Fox matches him too.
Well acted, partially works as a film......
