I think this year, most people takes Stone or Adams - and the Huppert cult probably takes precedence over Portman and Negga who are liked but don't have the masses love of Stone or Adams or the "Huppert is god" guys.
I'd take Stone, although Portman was just as good and I'd be glad to strip her of that Black Swan oscar for this one. I also liked Huller for Toni Erdmann but realize she's not that popular. I haven't seen Elle yet... embarrassingly.

Ruth Negga is my win. Emma Stone and Amy Adams claw at my runner-up spot against each other. Huppert's fine. Portman's okay. Streep is horrendous.

Portman. And Stone was the least worthy.

My pick for the year would be Sandra Hüller an her slow-mo screwball comedy, for the oscar nominees Huppert, I mean she's done that before but that watchable, funny and glib... dunno, Negga would also be in consideration, the other ones can take the train to blandland

1. Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Like Crazy 2. Isabelle Huppert, Elle 3. Marion Cotillard, From the Land of the Moon 4. Annette Bening, 20th Century Women 5. Emily Blunt, The Girl on the Train Emma Stone would be my second choice from the nominees but Portman's was the only performance I found completely undeserving.

This poll probably explains why Amy Adams missed the nomination ... She's everyone's RU, no one's winner.

Natalie Portman for me. Huppert is close. I’d need to watch Elle again, but Portman’s performance had a more lasting effect on me.
I love Emma Stone as an actress but I still can’t believe she won for this role. It asks do little of her and has so little depth to it. She adds so much more charisma and charm to it than a lesser actor could have, but Mia is such a dull character, especially in comparison to the other nominees (not to mention Adams’ Louise Banks, who’s snub still hurts to this day 🥲😂)
Amy Adams: Arrival Isabelle Huppert: Elle Ruth Negga: Loving Natalie Portman: Jackie Anya Taylor-Joy: The VVitch

Ranking the Nominees 1) Negga 2) Stone 3) Portman 4) Huppert 5) Streep My own Top 10
01 Ruth Negga, Loving 02 Samantha Robinson, The Love Witch 03 Rebecca Hall, Christine 04 Emily Blunt, The Girl on the Train 05 Emma Stone, La La Land
06 Natalie Portman, Jackie 07 Isabelle Huppert, Elle 08 Amy Adams, Arrival 09 Lauren Ashley Carter, Darling 10 Kristen Stewart, Personal Shopper
So yeah, it is a strong Oscar line-up for sure. Four of the nominees are in my Top 7.
This is one of the Streep occasions, that I honestly do think WHY?! I love her so much, but so much fantastic work from fantastic actresses missed out for that.

My own Top 10
01 Ruth Negga, Loving 02 Samantha Robinson, The Love Witch 03 Rebecca Hall, Christine 04 Emily Blunt, The Girl on the Train 05 Emma Stone, La La Land
06 Natalie Portman, Jackie 07 Isabelle Huppert, Elle 08 Amy Adams, Arrival 09 Lauren Ashley Carter, Darling 10 Kristen Stewart, Personal Shopper
^ I looooooooooooooooooooove Carter so much there - there's a line where I think she says "Did you think you were gonna FNCK me?" (It may be "Did you think we were gonna FNCK?") where she is so genuinely unhinged that the line when she says it makes your hair stand up on your arms.......- the whole sequence where she "dresses" for her date and goes to the bar is like a mini-masterclass of coherent tics and mannerisms, and consistency. She's scary before she goes IN the bar even...... One day people are going to look at that this post-2015 era in horror movies and just marvel at some of those great performances from females ......or at least interesting ones anyway....... Actually 4 of those 10 performances are exceptional in some way to me - Hall, Huppert, Stewart, Carter - they are in some ways all I give a sh it about when I watch a performance - This is what I said about Stewart too in the "Partial Great Performance" Thread two years ago July 26, 2019
"I just re-watched Personal Shopper - and I was again struck by how disarmingly Kristen Stewart encompasses aspects of this role while completely missing others. I don't actually believe her in her job which is a problem when it's the title of the film even.....in some scenes that have to move the plot along I don't buy her mechanics at all......I don't believe what her life must have looked like before this movie started - no backstory that I can grasp.......as a "medium" she's as far-fetched as the general premise .......and yet she is so heartbreakingly lost and adrift and recognizably real in the films emotional scenes (it's a very cold emotionalism) that's pretty much all I notice or care about."

I remember that moment you mention above, with the line, and it is really chilling. Recent years have definitely been a purple patch for females in horror.
