Nice to see he's not snobbish against comic book films like his mentor Martin Scorsese is, although I'm sure the DC comment will rub some DC fanboys wrong. After doing his musical next, I wanted to see Lee take a shot at doing a comic book/big budget spectacle type film. Since he's obviously more of a Marvel fan, which Marvel property in the MCU would you like to see this auteur try? I mean its just screaming for him to do a Miles Morales film..New York City..he's a Spider-Man fan, the hero is mixed with African-American/Puerto Rican..its pitch perfect for his sensibilities in a way.

Good for him. Spike Lee is exactly what a true cinephile should be. Someone who loves an appreciates all forms of cinema and genres, and sees the validity and artistry in all of them. I was a bit disappointed in Martin Scorsese dismissal of the entire genre (and a few directors, mostly of an older generation who piggybacked on his sentiments). It was a reminder that though he's a rightly revered master, he's also showing his age and the inflexibility and intransigence that often comes with it. It's welcome that a director of Lee's standing and stature in the critical and arthouse film community isn't reflexively dismissive of Marvel. And he doesn't need them for anything either.

Agreed..Matthew Labitique was on the Team Deakins podcast a few weeks back and he told an interesting story while discussing Spike where he said Spike had never called him after one of his movies released before to congratulate him after a job well done until the first Iron Man came out and Spike called him to say he did great work and Labitique said that was an example that Lee watches everything. He’s a movie fan..Edgar Wright on Twitter recently before his Empire Magazine issue came out said he sat next to Lee at the premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and I know he was also at the Star Wars: The Return of Skywalker premiere as well. So he’s a fan of the types of movies guys like Scorsese, etc. don’t like. I would not be surprised if he did a comic book movie before the end of his career.

I'd be more excited if he was making a documentary about Marvel than a Marvel film tbh - since he's a far better documentary director than a narrative filmmaker.
The plus is he is a vibrant filmmaker - I'd imagine lots of colorful visuals! - so maybe it would fit .......on the other hand he's never been a director in tune with public tastes much so......that's not a good sign for a commercial property especially.
It isn't always a plus when a filmmaker loves a genre or wants to try a genre either - Coppola with One From The Heart and Scorsese with New York, New York for musicals for example of 2 high profile guys.
The closest Lee has ever come to this is his remake botch of Oldboy, based on a manga and that may be the worst thing he's ever done........which is really saying something given his patchy overall filmography.

This feels against everything he stands for. Doing a film about superheroes or adapting a comic book is fine, but working as part of the MCU is a total sellout move if actually does.

I would love a film from him centering on Nick Fury for an awesome reunion with Samuel Jackson. Make it a character study, weave themes of racism and elitism through a fantastic plot, experiment with genre, etc...
