Both are Neo-Westerns. Both came out in 2007. Both are regarded as masterpieces and modern classics as well as both considered to be among the greatest films of the last 20-25 years.
But which among the two is the greatest film?? Vote and comment.

Both are obviously classics, but There Will Be Blood for me. One of the great lead performances of all time. Even better cinematography and a stronger thematic center. I think the biggest difference is the ending. TWBB peaks in its final scene whereas I do find the oblique NCFOM ending a bit disappointing. I didn't want a shootout, just something to tie it all together better. Sticking the landing is such an important thing with a film.

No Country For Old Men is one of the most overrated movies of the last 20 years . Daniel Plainview & Cie no contest !

No Country For Old Men is a flawless film, and one of the top 20 films ever made, period. There Will Be Blood is a pretentious douchebag of a film; hollow, pointless, droning, and empty. I think you're a flat-out weirdo with shit taste if you think TWBB is better than NCFOM. TWBB was so overrated, there are countless 2007 films that deserved nominations over it in BP/BD.

TWBB ends in a scene of utter authorial bafflement; PTA gave up and turned to some pyrotechnics; the bowling ball scene would be the worst thing in PTA's career if he hadn't directed Magnolia. NCFOM ends in existential wonderment; it's funny, sad, and hilarious all at once. No comparison. PTA is a poseur, at least since kicking drugs. Coens are scamps but utterly serious when they want to be.

NCFOM, clearly to me but TWBB is the years 2nd best English language film.
TWBB has some deep flaws - Dano for one (he has defenders, they're wrong), an unrealistic absence of females for another thing, a last scene that is a flat out rip off of a famous play (Ionesco's The Lesson), that is handled great and I love that scene but it shouldn't be the LAST scene - but PTA always botches his endings in some way - and I love him but.......... he does.
NCFOM has no flaws......none whatsoever. One's a flawed masterpiece (TWBB), the other, (NCFOM) is a flawless masterpiece....

NCFOM doesn’t have flaws, but my heart goes to TWBB, the flawed one (and no, Dano is great).

I don't like No Country For Old Men at all. I just find it shallow and extremely one-dimentional. It didn't make me care for it at all. Sure, it does have a point, but it just hammers at it from the get go, without any nuance or subtlety whatsoever. And I've given it a chance multiple times, but I've always had the same lifeless reaction to it. I guess it's just not for me.
There Will Be Blood on the other hand is a pretty great film, which deals with several similar themes, but in a much more interesting and engaging manner.

Both are some of the best work of the 00's, but No Country for Old Men is better. From the writing to the execution it's pretty much the perfrect film for me.

There Will Be Blood on the surface looks like the kind of film Stanley Kubrick or John Huston would have made.
But No Country For Old Men is a flawless masterpiece. It's the kind of film you appreciate and love more as you get older, you understand certain things much better at a more mature age and admire even more certain unconventional things the Coens did in the film and the genre. So today i choose No Country For Old Men.

No Country For Old Men
To me it's not as great as many people find it to be, but still great. While There will be Blood has a great cinematography and a good lead performance, but aside of this is just very life- and bloodless.

TWBB has flaws NCFOM has not a single flaw
Yet, I like TWBB slightly better, both all-time worthy.

No Country For Old Men is just a bit better (DDL carried There Will Be Blood) . No Country for Old Men features a better story / better cast (IMO) .

Enjoyed this thread. The passion for both movies is clear. Haven't watched TWBNB so did not choose in the poll. Respect NCFOM.

This argument will never get old lol.
Both era-defining neo-Westerns. Both made by directors at the height of their craft. The Coens is great. The PTA is a masterpiece. I understand some feel the opposite is true.
