Unfortunately it’s looking worse for Lindo by the day with the Industry awards. I don’t think he’s getting in at BAFTA as well. The fact that they still had time to nominate Boseman for Supporting let’s me know that outside of Boseman..I dont think the industry/guild awards are here for Da 5 Bloods..it’s starting to become clearer like that. I think Boseman is the lone nom for the film and that’s it. Wouldn’t make any since for the film to have a good Oscar nomination morning and the most praised aspect of the film be snubbed. Unfortunate

Unfortunate Yep. Lindo's chances have been rapidly decreasing by the day, and this is probably the final nail in the coffin. Which sucks, because as much as I gave pupdurcs flak for being so high on the films chances for so long, I actually really really like the film, and Lindo's snub will be a major disappointment.

Is Babyteeth any good ? How's Scanlen's performance ? Haven't seen the film myself, but its inclusion in a couple of key categories isn't at all surprising. They always go for at least one Australian production, so it was either going to be Babyteeth or The Invisible Man.

Bakalova getting in here is kind of a huge fucking deal. That performance has crossover appeal across all sorts of blocs.

I was high on the films chances as well..especially after NBR..but starting with the Globes it seems that it’s more of a critics darling film than Oscar contender as the industry noms are coming in. I think the only reason it did good at SAG was because Boseman was in it. Very telling that it got everything but Lindo. If Boseman isn’t in the film..it doesn’t get an Ensemble nom imo. That’s why on nomination day now I’m just expecting the lone Boseman nom and that’s it.

Unfortunate I wouldn't say Da 5 Bloods is done at all outside Boseman. The SAG ensemble nomination was very important. And I think AACTA voters mimicked the Golden Globes line-up to an extent as a cue to what to vote for (since all these international awards bodies are trying to be Oscar precursors as well, and the Globes are seen as a consistent precursor). I feel the actual Oscars will have more of the SAG ensemble films in Best Picture ( Ma Rainey etc). I think it's still in play for several nods at Oscar. Sad that Lindo is on shaky ground though. But I have a feeling AMPAS will come through for him. Don't give up hope. You may yet get to whip out your dancing Lindo Gif again

Doesn’t make sense to me. Unfortunately I think it’s good day with SAG was just due to Boseman. No Boseman..No SAG Ensemble.

I thought you said you were high on the films chances again. To be honest, Da 5 Bloods has massively overperformed this awards season compared to the expectations of so many that had it being totally forgotten at this point. Even if it falls short at the Oscars, it's been a great run. That SAG ensemble nom means it's still in play for a Best Picture nod in a field of 10. The one thing nobody expected is that the film could still be in play for major nominations (supporting actor, Best Picture etc) but Lindo himself could miss. Everyone predicted the exact opposite. That Lindo would be the only thing still in play come awards season. There is now a scenario where Da 5 Bloods can be a Best Picture nominee without Lindo.

I think there's still a pretty decent chance it gets a Best Picture nod (thank goodness for expanded fields, eh). I think Lindo is in more danger than the actual film.

I think it really depends on how many nominees there are, because it feels like it's hovering around 8th-10th.

I think it's only a matter of time before AACTA replaces the increasingly irrelevant and laughable Critics Choice Awards as the 4th precursor to the Oscars. Maybe it already has, but it will take a while before nominees/winners actually start attending the show.

Is Babyteeth any good ? How's Scanlen's performance ? it's a top-tier 2020 release for my money. Scanlen is Great and anchors it superbly. The entire core cast is stellar, Mendelsohn might be my MVP, Essie is great as well as Toby Wallace.

Fun fact: in Best Actress, they've only disagreed with the Academy's ultimate decision three times since this category was instituted in 2011, and two of those times, it was because they gave the win to a hometown actress (Blanchett in 2015, Robbie in 2017). The only other time was in 2019 when they gave it to Ronan, but they really love her. So this is a very good get for Mulligan.
Conversely, Best Supporting Actress has only been right twice in the category's history: Arquette and Janney. So Olivia's got her work cut out for her.
