I think it's time Disney finally bites the bullet and #FireGinaCarano.

It took them long enough. I can’t believe when she was first cast, before I knew what she was about, that I thought it was cool that she had been hired. Reminded me of Lucy Lawless, but she wishes she was even a tenth of cool that Lawless is.

Can't recall the last time a person fumbled a bag this badly. The odds against a thickly built former female MMA fighter the wrong side of 35 making it as a legitimate actress in Hollywood we're slim to none, but she somehow did it with this Mandalorian gig. And she went out of her way to fuck it up for herself. Some celebrities need to be denied access to social media, because it can be a career destroyer.
What is she going to do now? She's probably made herself unhirerable as an actress, and MMA has evolved too much for her to go back to fighting (plus, she is likely well past her physical prime as an athlete).

Maybe for whatever show they wanted Carano to star in.

Carano dropped by her Agency UTA, joining Arnie Hammer as a free agent (Shia Labeouf has somehow avoided being dropped, but it's been reported that his agency is on a "hiatus" from working with him, while he does a PR stint in rehab to try and clean up his image again).

This situation is exactly why Kevin Fiege needs to think twice if he was considering having Letitia Wright become the new face of the Black Panther franchise, because I can easily see her with her social media hot takes, putting Marvel in a similar position as Carano did to Lucasfilm and having to fire her. Wonder if they did scrap any plans to make Wright the lead of the franchise....I can see them resurrecting Michael B Jordan's Killmonger, or even making Daniel Kaluuya's character (with his increased industry clout) the new Black Panther.

Gina Carano is 38. I'm a big fan of her work in Xena, but Lawless isn't really in the same casting bracket as Carano any longer. They'd probably hire Lawless as a mentor character as opposed to the central lead.

Yeah, but it's Star Wars. I don't need Lucy to be playing a stunt-heavy character. She can still be badass in her fifties.

I think Wright is incredibly talented, and under normal circumstances I think Shuri should become the new face of the franchise, but oof her tweets are just going to keep getting a lot of attention now, and unfortunately like Carano I think she’ll just keep doubling down just as she did a few months ago, so I can see why Marvel would want to avoid that kind of situation. (I think Chris Pratt might finally be out of luck as pictures of his brother being a member of the Three Percenters, and Pratt liking some of his brother’s political tweets. Although he seems to be made out of Teflon as far as avoiding scandals that haven’t went beyond social media, so who knows. )

That is always a big reason for them to go younger with casting female leads in parts like that. Not saying she can't be a badass in her 50's, but they likely don't want to lose that demographic. All these things factor in casting.

I'm pretty sure a big reason Carano has an acting career is because she's been regularly cited for years as one of the prettiest/hottest female MMA fighters, so yes, she attracted a horny fanboy demographic. The fact that many saw her as an attractive woman who could genuinely kick someone's ass, would be a turn on for many. But yes, I'd say Rosario Dawson (and by extension Ahsoka) has an even bigger appeal to that demo currently.

I guess freedom of speech doesn't equal freedom from consequences. She can post that on social media but Disney don't need to rehire her if they don't want to. They're a business and want to protect their reputation.

The equation you make is as dumb as the one she did. Congratulations. Not, I read the retwitt, it's not particullary offensive, and is more Against cancel culture than Against a polítical party . I don't think that none should ve fired or suspend for retwitt that message. I heard horrible twitts about Trump being a fascist ir nazist, and none of their poster ir retwitter Lost their Jobs. An offensive retwitt was like the video that Kathy Griffin posted. Her fired was a Misse en scene. And she was hired again the Best year by CNN. there is a double standard and this sucked

Or that, what, cancel culture is somehow the same as, or a step on the road to putting people in concentration camps? The idea is comical. This also isn't the first instance of stupid bullshit she's spouted, you can call it the straw that broke the camel's back if you like. Her freedom of speech does not, alas, give her freedom from consequences, and Mickey Mouse obviously believed she stood between him and maximum profit. Trump, in contrast, is an actual fascist by any of the numerous reasonable tenets that define the term. To believe the former equation requires you to stop thinking, to believe the latter you'd have to start. They're not the same.

Minorities under Nazi persecution weren't allowed to simply not be who they were, whereas Gina is personally free to hold whatever political opinions she wants. Choice - that's the difference and the comparison is a disingenuous attempt to minimise the historic individuality of the Holocaust and its ideological brutality for political sympathy. Frustrating that this needs to be stated. Any of the initial accusations against Trump of Hitlerisms had the adverse impact intended (it legitimised that his 2016-era opponents were melodramatic, which appealed to the mindset of his base), but it's obviously not equivalent to the insensitivity of Gina's social media activity. Comparing a bad man with a bad man for your political gain (making that bad man look bad), while lazy and emotionally driven, is not the same as using the victims for your political gain.

Part of the irony of those on the right outraged whenever someone gets de-platformed is that the right for so many years claimed to be all for free markets and big businesses but for this issue of mega companies doing what's in their bottom line's best interest it's suddenly Orwellian. Orwellian is meant to refer to state censorship, not those of companies, and if those on the right feel like these companies have gotten as big as the state then they should've enforced antitrust laws instead of ignoring them for decades.
