I recently gave this a re watch (haven't see it in over a decade) and found it to be terrifying & oh so good. IMO it features Bruce Willis' best performance and a well deserved Oscar nom for Pitt. The reason I found it to be "terrifying" is because of the current pandemic going on. Call it biological warfare but is definitely relevant today. Definitely a top 5 film of 1995 for me 9/10

Possibly the least likely great-ish or really good movie ever in Hollywood history. If any film should have sucked it's this and instead it works totally across the board. It's not just a REALLY good remake - it's a bordering on great Hollywood remake of a previous masterpiece short in another language that had no text interplay to copy off of and was utterly mysterious with little to build on for a remake until you saw 12 Monkeys. This appeals to everybody - people who love La Jetée.........never heard of La Jetée......whatever. The cast has 0 great actors in it (I like Brad Pitt in general but to call him a "great" actor is a wrong stretch though he's great here), a director that you thought would get lost in a maze who instead made it REALLY weird - weirder than you would have even thought (!) - and yet coherent and clear. It's a triumph of a screenplay that didn't get nominated for screenplay and nobody ever talks about that either when talking about the movie .......it's a batshit mad idea to even try this and it somehow works ridiculously well.

I haven’t seen this one in a while but I’ve always been a really big fan of it. I’m a big scI-fi guy and so is my dad so he took me to see this in the theater when I was 13 and it def blew me away. Probably due for another rewatch for sure. Pretty sure Pitt is still my supporting actor win.

I should give it a re-watch, it's been many years since I saw it.
But I really, really liked it. A great sci-fi movie and a well deserved nod for Brad Pitt. Stands out in a year full of amazing films.

Great film. Rewatched it relatively recently, and it might just be the best short film to feature length film ever. It just messes with your mind, it's great science-fiction, and Brad Pitt is a first rate kook.

MASTERPIECE. TRULY A GREAT WORK OF ART IN EVERY SENSE. The script, the story, the cinematography , the directing, the acting everything about this movie is sublime . Brad Pitt got rightfully nominated by the Academy but Bruce Willis and especially Madeleine Stowe were snubbed big time . The late Chris Plummer delivers a memorable performance as well. This is a must watch for all cinephiles. pacinoyes : did you just call Willis , Stowe and Pitt mediocre actors ?????

pacinoyes : did you just call Willis , Stowe and Pitt mediocre actors ????? Well, I'm not sure the scale goes : Bad, Mediocre, Great. There's shades in-between all of those too! ........It's complicated!! The amount of people I personally consider a "great" actor is pretty slim tbh ......you'd be shocked

Re-watched this last night for the first time in a long time... it's really great. Maybe even more than great. I think Gilliam's kookiness gets the best of him a few times (mainly some of the early hospital stuff), and kind of wonder what someone more sturdy like Ridley Scott would've done with this... but overall he does a pretty amazing job of putting you in Cole's fucked up headspace. Willis has a few iffy moments but it overall pretty damn good. Everyone knows Stowe and Pitt are great... but my under-the-radar MVP is David Morse. Eerily convincing with very little screentime. Ending stretch is perfection too. Forgot just how heavy and depressingly true-to-life this is. David Morse is a perpetual paradox for me. There are times I'll watch him in a movie where I think he's so decidedly miscast and they just stuck him in a role because they needed a warm body, but then I'll rewatch that same movie and he works so well that I wonder what the hell I was thinking, and then I'll see the movie again down the road and go back to the first feeling.

I rewatched it yesterday after like... 20 years, and yes, it holds up. It has the same manic energy of Brazil, though less focused, and that energy helps t not go overboard in some of the sequences (the hospital, in particular). Funnily enough, for a movie like this, the highlight is the screenplay, this doesn't usually happen. I agree with pacinoyes, it's no masterpiece, but it has no business being this good.
