2020 was pretty great for this category at least.
"Carried Me with You" - Onward "The Future" - The Way I See It "Green" - Sound of Metal "Home Thoughts from Abroad" - Military Wives "Húsavík" - Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga "I Get It" - Bad Hair "Identical" - On the Rocks "Io Sì (Seen)" - The Life Ahead "The Plan" - Tenet "Rain Song" - Minari "Rocket to the Moon" - Over the Moon "Staring at a Mountain" - Never Rarely Sometimes Always
Pending new arrivals, my top five will probably come from this^ dozen, but I'm always on the lookout for stuff I've missed. What songs are everyone else loving? Shout 'em out here!

"Volcano Man" - Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga "Rain Song" - Minari "Lion of Love" - Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga "Identical" - On the Rocks "Staring at a Mountain" - Never Rarely Sometimes Always "Green" - Sound of Metal “Wuhan Flu” - Borat Subsequent Moviefilm
I was listening to all the songs that made the Oscars shortlist last night and I remember thinking Celeste's "Hear My Voice" at the end of Trial of the Chicago 7 was the most overwrought, horrible use of music ever but to my absolute surprise, I thought it was really nice on its own. But in the context of the film? Awful fit.

welp, apparently "Running with the Wolves" isn't a part of it -- sad. that blows, easily would've won the year

"The Plan" from Tenet is stunningly awesome and would easily be my #1 pick if I had this category in my own lineups. I also very much like "Queen Bee" from Emma. "Husavik", "Volcano Man" and "Lion of Love" from Eurovision are all very good fun, as well as "Ja Ja Ding Dong" "Speak Now" from One Night in Miami is actually a lowkey decent song, as is the one from The Life Ahead. But "The Plan", "Queen Bee" and "Volcano Man" are the ones I really care about.

It's boring and terribly overwrought but it's the kind of song that always gets nominated and I wouldn't even be shocked to see it win. "Speak Now" is similar but IMO so much better.

so I have it in my 2019 lineups because Pinocchio dropped in Italy at the end of 2019, but I wanted to take a sec to shout-out the beautiful song that plays over the credits, "Passo Passo" (composed by Marianelli and sung by Petra Magoni). The Marianelli score overall was really sweet. Simple but sweet. I know a few folks have seen Pinocchio by now. Any fans of this lovely song? JangoB ? avnermoriarti ?

If I had Best Original Song as a category in my personal lineups, I'd absolutely include this beautiful song there in 2019. I'm actually very disappointed that "Pinocchio" wasn't on either of the Music Branch shortlists for this year because both the song and Marianelli's score are wonderful.

It’s a beautiful song and feels of a piece within the rest of the movie and not a last minute addition, like a few of the Oscar nominated songs. The Dead Don’t Die is my pick for the year but Passo Passo is in the top 5.
