Might as well keep on riding the train, sticking with Nomadland.

Might as well keep on riding the train, sticking with Nomadland. I actually don't know at this point. LMAO. I wouldn't mind Soul winning. I feel as it has such a nice message. In addition, it would be nice to see animation win BP.

Fuck it, I'm going with Promising Young Woman. It's definitely getting a screenplay nod. I think TC7 has edge but it wouldn't surprise me if PYW pulls off a win.

Sticking with Nomadland.
At this point, I guess only Chicago 7 could be a threat.

So far, no reason to change my Nomadland prediction.

Nomadland being a one person show doesn’t invite a lot of confidence despite its strong showing so far, but it does seem to have the most passion behind it. I guess we’ll see how the precursors go.

I've been on the Chicago 7 train for a long time, but I'm jumping ship. Nomadland seems to have the enthusiasm that Chicago isn't reaching.

Bold move, you might end up crucified. It’s probably got a better chance than Nomadland

So what do you guys think about the Netflix Factor? Will they give them the win or will a statement be made that no, you still gotta open in a theatre as long as it is a same-day release?

Well, I was on Chicago 7 and Da 5 Bloods and wavered between the two. It didn't seem to me that a race movie from Sorkin would do as well as the same from Lee, but it seems that Lee has faded and Sorkin has surged. I still don't think it smells right though. Nobody actually seems to like Chicago 7, while Nomadland is getting passion. Sure, we could get a Green Book situation of a tepidly received winner that nobody dislikes, but this could just as easily go the Moonlight route of a passion pick that nobody dislikes. And that's the key here: I've never heard of someone really being against Nomadland.

And that's the key here: I've never heard of someone really being against Nomadland. This is a good point. With Roma I think there was more negativity. Part of it was if viewers would actually make it through the whole film at home or turn it off. Part of it was how much Netflix was spending to campaign for it. Part of it was just being on Netflix. I still voted for Nomadland, but I have no clue at this point between it and Chicago 7. I fully expect Chicago 7 to win Best Drama at the Globes which might be a curse since only three winners of the past decade went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars. On the other hand, I think Chicago 7 might be too American for BAFTA, and they go for Nomadland which also might be a curse. (I thought Judas and the Black Messiah might end up being a factor, but so far it seems like mostly Kaluuya is getting the attention. I think it might be too late for it to gain more momentum since it didn’t do that well at the Globes or SAG.)

It's an actors film. It covered a period in history, that still seems relevant today. People here are underestimating Aaron Sorkin's popularity in Hollywood. It could be another year where there is a Director/Picture split.

Nobody talks about Spotlight at least The Big Short is relevant. Chances are this will happen but ughhh.. at least pick something popular people watched at home.

Of course this is IMHO but it doesn't feel like anyone cares about it.

I think the race is between it and Judas (depending how it lands). I can’t imagine Nomadland mustering the passion or support to propel it to a win. I loved it but it felt very slight, and I have to guess a huge chunk of voters will come away thinking “it was beautiful but that’s it?’
