The great Jean Eustache with 2 features I've only seen La maman et la putain, but I'll have to check out the other one. Didn't realize he died so young...

Also there's Jean Vigo with only 1 feature length film, which was highly influential.

Chazelle has been sort of all over the map for me... hate Whiplash, love La La Land, and I think First Man is just solid and well made but not something I'd revisit. Very curious to see where Babylon lands since that could give me a clearer sense of how I feel about him...

Saw James and the Giant Peach many, many years ago and only saw Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time just a few years ago... never actually made the connection that they were directed by the same person even though it seems obvious now. Could be that when I was younger I just assumed that Tim Burton directed Nightmare like a lot of ppl do...

Bennett Miller, period.
Capote Moneyball Foxcatcher
I swear, if he made more films, he would be revered at the same level of P.T. Anderson or Fincher among the greatest modern American Filmmakers.
I wish he was more prolific.

Todd Field (In the Bedroom & Little Children)
He also directed one of the best episodes of HBO's short lived series Carnivale imo. He hasn't directed anything since 2006 (Little Children) which is baffling because I find him to be so damn talented. He gets a lot out of his actors and In the Bedroom still remains my favorite film of 2001. I really hope he makes a comeback and directs The Creed of Violence some day.

I'll also add Duncan Jones as a choice.
Son of David Bowie, he directed one of my favorite films of the 2000s (Moon ) . I thought it was so damn great featuring dual performances by Sam Rockwell. Love that film and I thought it was clever as hell.
Source Code was pretty damn good too.
And imo Warcraft was good harmless/dumb fun. I've never played the game before but the film was pretty decent and Duncan did a good job on creating a whole world. Its just too bad that he spent 5 years of his life working on that film to only have it bomb at the box office & ripped to shreds by critics.
Oh and we won't talk about Mute lol.
I am confident that Mr Duncan Jones has another good film in him. And I look forward to his next film.

Jeremy Saulnier is another director that is talented as hell (Blue Ruin & Green Room were both great). And while Hold the Dark may have been a bit of a misfire, Saulnier's direction kept me intrigued thru out the film.

Moustapha Akkad - He only made two films, The Message and Lion Of The Desert (technically three, but the other one is an Arabic version of The Message) and both are masterpieces IMO.

He has a chance of re-entering the conversations I think, as he has an upcoming film this year (featuring Jordan Peele) and a TV series TBA.

Still, I'll definitely check out whatever the guy makes.

Oh honey, don't you know who I am? Oh honey, I didn't get where I am today following rules... and I am double-jointed. But not to be difficult, I'll think again...
