King shit. When was the last time the Jury President was actually on the poster?? From Variety: “The only other time a jury president has been even tangentially involved in the poster was in 2006, when jury head Wong Kar-Wai’s iconic film “In The Mood For Love” was the focus, featuring a silhouetted Maggie Cheung in a doorway.”

I know we still have a long way to go with Covid, but seeing this and it sinking in that Cannes really is going to happen in a few days feels things are returning to normal even though I know they’re not, and who knows what normal will be when it finally is over.

I tried to prepare an hypocritical schedule but there are so many interesting movies showing simultaneously. I’ll watch Annette and The Tsugua Diaries on the 13th/14th. While the 16th could be a very busy day as I’ll try to book tickets for A Hero, Benedetta, The Story of My Wife, Memoria and France/Red Rocket.

Man, it sounds absolutely insane, but those prospective 16th viewings are gonna be so sweet. I'm especially stoked for the Weerasethakul and the Verhoeven.

I suppose Davis is Supporting here the way they'll arc it .......but she's just a fascinating actress - maybe it's the way this clip is edited but she never oversells the sweetness - because she knows ultimately there is no sweetness. She looks great here .......not sure this movie will translate outside of people who know the real life event............... but if Davis could get a nod or a win........not many things that would make me happier.........

Davis's double-knockout turns last year for Babyteeth and True History of the Kelly Gang really made me a fan, particularly the latter (where she was partnered with her real-life husband, Justin Kurzel, as she is here). It's a great muse/director partnership based from that already, and I am super-excited to see this.

Both Judy and Essie Davis have significant roles in the movie but they are still supporting from what I’ve heard. I’m very curious to see the reception of the movie, I feel like Nitram will find more success with European critics then American ones as the characterisation of the central character might be polarising.

I just realized -- is Caleb Landry Jones going to be doing an Aussie accent for this? I really don’t know to be honest. The logical answer would be yes since the whole cast and the director are Australian, but maybe Kurzel has let Jones use his natural accent to differ from the real person and possible controversies.

I just realized -- is Caleb Landry Jones going to be doing an Aussie accent for this? I would imagine so, and I'm scared. I'm interested, honestly. Caleb Landry Jones is an actor who has always felt he could go one way or the other -- he could either be a fierce and ferocious talent, or a limited one. He's been wielded effectively in roles that play to his usual sensibilities (see Get Out and Three Billboards), but I'm very curious if he can tap into something that shows his versatility. Kurzel's a solid enough director of actors, and this is kind of the key part in the project, and I'd have to think that casting an American as an Australian were pitfalls he was aware of well before shooting. Jones could surprise us all.

The Stillwater premiere is happening as we speak. I don't know WTF Matt Damon is saying here because of the loud French translation, but he doesn't look like he's dreading the reception or anything, so that's good.

have yet to be impressed by Kurzel but when I see absolute legend Judy Davis, I pay attention.
btw Caleb Landry Jones was exceptional last year in the underrated/overlooked The Outpost. The guy has been taking on some really ambitious roles these last couple years. Can't wait to see what he comes up with in this new Kurzel and I'm also wondering if he goes for an Aussie accent. I think he could!
