Hey, y'all! I decided to do a best video games. Pretty similar rules to the other polls so could the mods pin this if they like. Anyway, I don't know the due date will be but probably April 27 but it could easily be delayed or not depending on how many I get.
Same rules:
• Send me a list by PM, not in the thread. • NEW RULE: Just give me a list of your favorite games. Hell, make it a top 1 for all I care but the max should be 25. If your lists are not numbered, I will count them as 1 – 25 in the order sent. • DLCs are not included. Only full games. If you're going to put a DLC like say The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, then I'll only count that as Witcher 3. • Your #1 will earn 25, #2 earns 24....and #25 will earn 1 point. You all know the drill. • Remember, once you've voted, you can of course edit your vote by re-sending your ballot to me by PM. So if you have the desired max of 25 by the end I'll count it.
Ballots Received 1. TheListenerCanon 2. Ryan_MyYeah 3. Stephen 4. Theycallmemrfish 5. TheMovieSinner 6. Schiggy 7. Tommen_Saperstein 8. DeepArcher 9. Joaquim 10. Archie 11. MilesMorales 12. Martin Stett 13. Cheesecake 14. Viced

The trouble with video games is that age becomes a major issue. New games require expensive hardware, old games require emulators, and it's hard for me to stay current with both the classics and the new hits. On top of that, console exclusives are... well, exclusive. Also, there's the matter of genre: in video games especially, genre matters. I see Stephen pushing Final Fantasy Tactics and it looks like a great game that I absolutely cannot be bothered to stick with for more than ten battles. Turn based strategy is something that I cannot wrap my head around, no matter how well designed the game. I'm willing to submit a few classics, but probably not a whole 25. A few FYCs with notes below. - The king. Rewarding the observant player and punishing the foolhardy with a mallet the size of your mom, this is a perfect marriage between theme and gameplay. I have never loved a game so much. - The most outright fun of any video game ever? A wild ride that makes players think in 3D as they rain fire from the heavens while avoiding enemy fighters coming at them from all orientations. - An epic adventure that starts off as a Star Wars knockoff before forging its own, uniquely crushing narrative path. The best use of the FF series ATB system and 16 playable characters that all feel very different from each other cement this as the best in the series. - By taking away all ability for players to fuck with each other, Journey succeeds in making the best online multiplayer experience in the world. - The little Zelda that could. Not as innovative as Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask or whatever the classic Zelda games are, but never before has a game felt so cozy. Screw Animal Crossing, I want to live in this world! And that's even taking into account my crippling fear of water! - The gameplay isn't quite as polished as in MGS3, but this gets points for being the best dystopian sci-fi land of my lifetime. - Once again, I haven't played the classic games, so I can't comment on how innovative this is. But it feels innovative, utilizing exploration and player navigation in ways that Dark Souls would later perfect. - The perfect multiplayer party experience. Sit 2-4 people around the N64 in either co-op or deathmatch and watch the sparks fly.

I'm not an experienced gamer to make this list.......
I know my Top 5.... Journey, Walking Dead season 1+2, Life is Strange, and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - but the rest can be a lot of other games to a lesser degree, and I just need to play more to know.

My three favourite games by far are the following so I easily recommend them for this list:
Planescape: Torment Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows Of Amn Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask Of The Betrayer
Some more FYC's:
Baldur's Gate Pillars Of Eternity Dragon Age: Origins Dragon Age: Inquisition Tyranny The Age Of Decadence Mass Effect 3 Neverwinter Nights: Hordes Of The Underdark Icewind Dale 2 Shadowrun: Dragonfall Pokemon Glazed Age Of Empires II Expeditions: Viking Drakensang: The River Of Time

Alright I see that some people can’t come up with a whole top 25. If you can’t do you want the minimum of 5-10? If so, your top 5-10 will only have a maximum of 5-10 votes as opposed to 25.
Does that sound good? I do need as much votes as I can.

I'll come up with whatever I get. Maybe I'll have 25, maybe I'll have 16, or whatever other number. I'll cross that bridge when I burn it. I already listed eight and there are probably a dozen more that I'll wind up sticking in there. Shouldn't be *too* much of a stretch to get 25, I'm just being cautious about including subpar games.

Okay then, I'll continue with 25 rule. If I somehow don't get the votes either between the end of the week to end of the month then I'll make the limit to 5 to 25.
Also, I should point that DLCs are not included. Only full games. If you're going to put a DLC like say The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, then I'll only count that as Witcher 3.

A few more FYCs (mainly for my own benefit of keeping track of stuff I may vote for): - That classic FromSoft customization makes this a blast. This was my very first playstation game and I can still remember the build of my first AC. HD-Zero, XCH-01, Gatling gun arms, LN-3001C, V6 generator, Comdex FCS, the POS starting booster, X16 mine dispenser and that scattershot multimissile on the back. It was a piece of crap, but it was *my* piece of crap. (Wow, I really can remember that AC! I haven't played this game in at least fifteen years!) - Gotta love that Metroidvania exploration, although it isn't as much fun here as in Dark Souls or Metroid Prime. - A simple game, but superbly done. - A freeware indie game inspired by the battle system of classic Metroid (with ten levels as opposed to one interconnected world), this deserves a spot for its tight gameplay and intelligent morality system. Unlike some other indie games (Undertale can burn in hell!), Iji never preaches to the player, but allows for organic story developments based on player choices: if you are homicidal or pacifist or anywhere in between, this affects how enemies see you and how they respond both in gameplay and in the story. - RIP Companion Cube - The only way to upgrade one character's weapon is to trade gay porn to some very flamboyant fashion designers. Also, you can give an "Mysterious red candle that can burn for years" to a woman who says that it's just the thing to spice up nights with her boyfriend. Oh, and the kinda-sorta Legend of Dragoon battle system ain't bad either. - My favorite fighting game, which can stick several players on one screen and never devolve into chaos. And unlike other fighting games, SSBM never becomes a rote memorization of movesets, since arenas and items are constantly changing the fight's dynamics. - I just finished this again, and it is sooooo much fun. The gameplay is decent action RPG stuff, but the characters are wonderfully entertaining. I've never seen a video game with such fun characters.

Man, I would love to participate in this but I've completed, like, only 22 games! Granted, none of them have been less than damn good, but still.

Like I said, I'll make the limit to 5 soon if I feel I don't have enough by the end of the week to month. I do want as many participants as I can. Also, I probably won't have the poll end by the end of April. So perhaps you can try to complete 3 more games before then. You'd be surprised how much games can be completed with three months.

Sorry, I always sit and wait until the last moment. Not sending a ballot had nothing to do with not having games and everything to do with being a lazy bastard.

No problem. This doesn't apply to you. I understand MAR aren't all game buffs like me. Doing the last minute will help since you won't have to edit. But I do need more votes is all. 4 isn't going to do it for me so I might extend the date.

I foresee very few ballots with a horrendous amount of ties My list will probably be 20% Resident Evil games.

I forgot this exists. Haven't played any great games recently. I just started Parasite Eve, which is fine, but certainly not going to be top quality.
