Finally got to see this classic. Jack Lemmon is/was one of the all-time greats, in my opinion. In this movie he's both funny and serious, he goes deep into this character, especially in several of his drunk scenes. He has some kind of rare, uncanny ability to seem so natural, even in the most ordinary scene. And Lee Remick is right there with him, holding her own. The two of them are like the Fred and Ginger of drunken staggering!
Entertaining from start to finish, very well acted by all, highly recommended!

A strong film to say the least. I also really liked Mancini's musical score, it amplifies the emotional tone.

Good but prefer good ole Lost Weekend as far as Alcoholism movies go actually. I actually watched that immediately afterwards, had both recorded off TCM for awhile now. The Lost Weekend was okay but didn't blows me away or anything. It was from an earlier era and not done in an as involving and naturalistic manner, what I mean is, I found Lemmon's method acting really sucks you into the moment. Was it really the best picture of that year?
