We're really scraping the bottom of the "hey - let's film a play!" barrel when we get to the "600 pound fat recluse" one aren't we? You know, they've never filmed like Speed The Plow yet Darren ........

Wow - apt material for Aronofsky's heavy-handedness! Tbh I had zero interest until the Fraser casting... Now I'm kinda curious to see it.

Been waiting for Aronofsky to announce a new film for almost 4 years. I think this sounds very promising, a mix between Requiem For a Dream and The Wrestler.

Very inspired and unexpected choice. I like Fraser as a comedic actor ("Blast from the Past", even "Bedazzled"). Not sure if I ever thought he's more than passable in a drama but for some reason, I feel like he can pull this off. Maybe because of the melancholic impression I get from him in the recent years or something but I think Aronofsky can actually get a strong performance from him. The narrative is certainly there. Don't know much about the play but it sounds like it's more of a "Wrestler" type of film? I mean this alone, broken guy, him trying to reconnect with his daughter etc. If so, I'm on board. I'm also interested who else he's going to cast.

Interesting casting. Shades of Rourke in The Wrestler.
Fraser has always been an underrated actor, and he is doing some very fine work currently on the Doom Patrol show.

But really, I'm loving this. To see a big name like Aronofsky back after a few years of silence with a project about an obese guy starring Brendan Fraser? All of this sounds so random and awesome. So happy for Fraser given a big fat chance like this too. I wonder if they'll use a fat suit or if Fraser will go method.

Given all that he's been through with Hollywood and the film industry in general (doing stunts literally made his body very broken), I'm here for the Brendan Fraser's comeback. In the right roles, dude could be an incredibly interesting actor, and maybe working with someone like Aronofsky is just the thing that his career needs right now.

Oh fuck yeah! Say what you want about Darren but his films stick with you for days after watching them. He can be very heavy handed at times but I think he gets the most out of his actors. Can't wait for this one.

Seriously though, is Brendan Fraser gonna win an Oscar? You never know, but if you were placing bets - bet on "No" ........the Academy almost never rewards an actor over 50 (he's 52 right now) that they didn't think was that good to begin with ............... It has happened where an actor over 50 wins with no previous nominations ( Art Carney, wtf) but........it's not bloody likely. One of the things that amuses me is when people thought Michael Keaton, Mickey Rourke had a legit shot to win - they really didn't...... it's tough to pull off......Keaton was 62 or 63 (?) if they're giving the Oscar for someone on a first nod they are giving it to someone younger.......and the older you are.......... the harder that is to pull off. Though Delroy Lindo could (theoretically) buck this trend this year......though that gets into the pacinoyes other things component of "not a meritocracy" also including Race and Death and stuff .......um......

Not familiar with the play, but a small part of me hopes that Aronofsky will add a twist ending where Kevin Spacey breaks into the guy's house and force feeds him to death, and then Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt discover his body.

Samantha Morton is a flat out awesome actress so I love this news so much! Definitely a fan of her and haven't seen her in much lately so this is a pleasant surprise.
My top 3 favorite performances from her are 1. Jesus' Son 2. Minority Report 3. The Messenger

I really dig Hong Chau and can't wait to see her in an Aronofsky movie! I'm gonna wish Oscar noms for Fraser and Chau into existence.
