A really good analysis of the coffee shop scene today from Vanity Fair. I always say this - but great actors are in the great movies - you can only ride that "he /she is always better than the movie!" thing so long before it catches up to you....... and the "GOAT" actors are usually in the greatest or "the most celebrated" scenes - which is why this scene gets so lauded as time has gone on - especially now- that they're in the twilight of their careers. It's the reason DePac usually rank as the best ever - because people want to build monuments to their work - and construct arguments around pieces of "evidence" even if it's silly to do that - it's human nature to do that.......like they did with Brando / Steiger in the "contender" scene in On The Waterfront ......but this is more evenly matched peers, characters and with more undercurrent to it. Coming up on its Tribeca screening also: www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/06/heat-al-pacino-robert-de-niro-scene "As the film’s legacy has grown, Mann, De Niro, and Pacino have resisted the temptation to shroud The Scene in myth. They speak about it as old friends do, as a good and special thing they were lucky to make. When opportunities arise to bolster the legend, they sidestep. Mann, for example, opted instead to highlight a scene from Heat’s epic shootout when asked to participate in the filmmaking series One Perfect Shot. At a 20th-anniversary screening of the film in 2015 held by the Motion Picture Academy—which failed, in 1996, to nominate Heat for any Oscars—all three smiled and shrugged their way through questions moderated by the night’s host, Nolan."

Victory lap and pretty funny, laid back GOAT-ishness:

4K release next Tuesday.... but unfortunately it sounds like they went overboard with the color grade, which is too dark according to this guy and looks too much like an Instagram filter. I think I'll stick with the 2017 Blu-ray since apparently there's no difference in the audio track or special features. Plus, I actually prefer the Blu-ray cover art to the 4K. A shame since I've been waiting for this release for so long...

A shame since I've been waiting for this release for so long... I already pre-ordered the 4K so I’ll see if it’s actually an issue soon enough. Read some other reviews that were pretty glowing. Also, Mann has been promoting it and he just doesn’t strike me as a director that would do so if he though the quality was bad.
