I'm definitely a fan (crushed it in Inception). Good for Page!

Good for him. I guess this makes him the most high-profile out trans actor in Hollywood to date(?)

Listened to his interview on WTF a few weeks ago and he's had a hell of a journey. Hoping the best for him and his career!

So does that make him straight white male now?

So does that make him straight white male now? If you actually bothered to read what he wrote you would know that he still identifies as queer.

Paige now identifies as a "he" and is exclusively attracted to women based on the prior lesbian identification which would make him straight.

Just out of curiosity, since this is the first time I heard an actor or an actress be considered transgender, did you ever rank him amongst your favorite actresses? If so, is that going to change to male actors now? It'd be awkward.

Meanwhile what would that make his wife who used to be in a lesbian relationship with him? Would their marriage be considered a 'straight' one in a sense, but as a cis and a trans couple? Honest question, not trying to be rude. EDIT: ....annnnnnd this comment is now outdated. They got a divorced, of course.

I think retroactively you'd still put prior performances under actress/sup. actress but if you're ranking Paige all time you'd do it with actors.

I owe my iconic “i just realised elliot page’s name is elliot” thread to him which was my rise to stardom on Oscar Buzz.

I honestly don't know, but the thing is we don't need to understand it. As long as Elliot is happy, then that's all that matters, we don't need to be trying to label or understand everything.

This discussion makes me wonder how Oscar campaigns in the acting categories would work for someone who identifies as non-binary. It wouldn't be right to categorize them based on the gender of the character they're playing (plus that doesn't really resolve the issue if the character is also enby), so would the person just choose what category to campaign in, sort of like how people choose to campaign in leading or supporting in borderline cases? I can see how some people wouldn't like that solution though because it basically becomes akin to situations where there are no gender-neutral restrooms, or only two options on forms you fill out. This would probably lead to more arguments against gender-split acting categories, which opens a whole other can of worms...

My understanding is their stance is there should just be acting awards with gender being removed from the equation.

This was a question that was coming up when Asia Kate Dillon was getting (deserved) buzz for Billions. They wound up getting nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Critics' Choice awards.
