Lmao, that's hilarious and took me a minute to realize. Almost makes me want to rewatch BR to see how bad it really was. Almost.

Jacki Weaver for SLP I mean she was just...there Rachel McAdams for Spotlight : who knew that spending the whole movie taking notes while occasionally looking concerned could earn you an Oscar nomination ? I mean I like McAadams but that nomination was ridiculous !

Screenplay always makes me laugh a lot.....or cry.....one of those things....... Shape of Water, Get Out, Blackkklansman, Jojo Rabbit are crap screenplays possibly written in crayons by pre-adolescents..........3 of them won.

Shape of Water, Get Out, Blackkklansman, Jojo Rabbit are crap screenplays possibly written in crayons by pre-adolescents..........3 of them won. Don't forget Spotlight, in which a priest on the phone says something to the effect of "the Church will do anything to stop this from coming out" and he's asked what they would do... and then he hangs up in response. It's meant to be intense and shocking and I was laughing so hard that this otherwise dry movie went for something so stupidly dramatic. But yes, screenplay is always where the worst of the worst will be nominated... and then the worst of those will win. It's pretty much guaranteed by this point.

GET OUT is a fucking ripp off of the grossly underrated THE SKELETON KEY and yet it won for best "ORIGINAL" screenplay😕 I mean it's an entertaining movie but original and groundbreaking it is definitely not. And yes, Jojo Rabbit's screenplay is kind of childish and corny.

And yes, Jojo Rabbit's screenplay is kind of childish and corny. It's a movie for children about children, so I feel like it's just successful with the voice it's aiming for IMO

And yes, Jojo Rabbit's screenplay is kind of childish and corny. It's a movie for children about children, so I feel like it's just successful with the voice it's aiming for IMO So ? it's still possible to make a movie for children without completely insulting people's intelligence. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas did that perfectly. It did manage to deliver a beautiful and poignant message to the youth without turning it into a cornfest. In Jojo Rabbit ,the dialogue was mind numbing to the point I almost fell asleep. The film's jokes are surprisingly often thin and juvenile rather than truly witty and thought-provoking, and they manage to wear thin quickly. Another problem with this film is that its purpose (a supposedly edgy satire against the Nazi regime) is somewhat self-defeating when the film is never quite as edgy or provocative as it could be, opting to often play it safe by simply resorting to baseline and surface-level writing. While the characters are engaging enough, they are never developed enough to truly care about their motivations or what happens to them.

Arkin nommed for Argo was ludicrous. Same with Weaver's SLP nomination, which was about as undeserved as her Animal Kingdom one was deserved. Shape of Water deserved 0 Oscar nominations and multiple razzie wins. Crazy. Ruby Dee didn't deserve her nom for that one scene slapping Denzel. Brolin was 500 times better than her in that movie and didn't sniff a nom despite being the lead of the the Best Picture winner as well. PTA getting a nomination for IV's screenplay is a sick joke. The book is very good, as I've said repeatedly, but the film script completely mangles it. Cuaron winning Best Director for Gravity and Roma is ridiculous.

Brolin stole that film...from Washington and Crowe neverthless.

The Anne Ramsey Supporting Actress nod for Throw Momma from the Train never fails to make me LOL. Not in a bad way, mind you - it's one of the most inspired nominations ever. It's just damn funny to me that it happened at all.

Brolin stole that film...from Washington and Crowe neverthless. Part of the reason for my legend on IMDB and MAR (ok Legend might be too much) is that I saw American Gangster early, at a sneak preview and then gave some bad news to the Zelbots first - that it wouldn't get any nods - (it got 2) .........and people really did NOT like to hear that (years later, they are still holding a grudge over that, check out the posts on here 13 years later .........whatever I was right and I pray for them that they'll get the help they need, um)......anyway .............I liked the film but knew it would miss out at the big show but swear to God, I never ...........ever .........thought that Dee would be the film's one acting nod...........and I really never........ever.......thought she would actually WIN SAG.........

I also think it's quite LOL-worthy that 2010: The Year We Make Contact got nominated for Costume Design (for a couple of space suits) and Makeup (for basically one relatively short scene of old age makeup). Funny stuff. Did they hate "Dune" THAT much for this movie to steal its much more deserved nominations?
