Hmmm... Zendaya just won her 2nd Best Actress In A Drama Emmy for Euphoria. Impressive shit for one so young. Before Taylor-Joy has even won her first Emmy. This is interesting....I expected Zendaya to be the bigger star/have a bigger fanbase, but I didn't expect she'd become a super-prestige actress to this extent. At least in terms of hardware, she's got the edge on Taylor-Joy as a prestige Actress for the moment. Zendaya gives me vibes of someone who could one day EGOT.The Emmy loves to award more than one time, the same actor or actress. I remember the Calixta Flockhart Ally McBeal wins. The main difference, is that she had not receive any other major award, maybe not even nomination.- I never have take seriously an Emmy. A couple of year ago they Awarded Game of Thrones Finale as Best TV Series. Despite the fact of being horrible.- It's more about who is snub (Andy Griffith, Tim Allen) that the ones that win Emmys.- there is a fascination from the Emmy voters for Zendaya like in the 80s was a fascination for Televengelist).- As an actress I haven't seen enough of her.- So probably she will win an Oscar, because she is making lot of money thanks to Spiderman franchise, but also could end as Calixta.-

Calista Flockhart never won an Emmy for Ally McBeal. She was nominated 3 times for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy and lost on all 3 occasions.

Of course Emmys repeat winners a lot since most voters don't watch these shows (just look at how every winner was either in the first season or won before), but it doesn't make a smaller achievement than anyone else that ever won, specially considering how young she is. Still counts for an EGOT, and is better than winning for something no one watched in a category no one cares.

Probably I confuse her with Helen Hunt (who yep won an Oscar). Or I confuse the Emmy wins with the SAG Awards. Thats what so many years ago. I lost partially my memoria. And wasnt a big deal to search at Wikipedia.

They nominate Don Cheadle last year for exalple instead of Wyatt Russell or Daniel Bruhl (ok they were in a different cathegory) for 45 intrascendent secconds. At least Ellen Burstyn secconds nom were "great". But you are right its better to win than to be snub. I dont know why they choose her. Maybe they though she is the best, or maybe they though she is the future. I dont think that even half of the people that vote for her watch her scenes. Any way not even Zendaya fans watched the show.

Well deserved, but unexpected. Zendaya is legit great on that show. Elordi deserved a nomination though, and was clearly better than Sweeney. I'll forgive that as he seems to be booking movies.

Yeah, Euphoria is a very popular show- I don't have the rating numbers, but it was probably HBO's most watched series in the period between the Westeros-set shows.
Also, seeing how Florence Pugh rose massively in mainstream popularity playing Yelena in a Black Widow movie that wasn't all that popular or watched by Marvel standards (even the whole drama in DWD would have played different in the internet if she was some indie actress not that known outside art-house movie watchers), it hit me how ATJ got really unlucky in that she got a Marvel role that she would be perfect for her and had potential to explode (A LOT more than Pugh's), but she got it at the absolutely wrong movie and time, in the middle of the Fox/Disney merger and the whole mess that apparently was the NM movie.
She rebounded more than enough with Queen's Gambit, but with more luck it the combination of these roles would have really taken her to the stratosphere, perhaps even more than Zendaya is right now (though the competition doesn't really exist, and I hope people here realize this). Makes one realize how much of success in Hollywood is really due to luck and right place/right time situations.

The way Kevin Fiege operates, I wouldn't be remotely surprised if he recast Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik/Ilyana when Mutants/ X-Men characters are introduced into the MCU. Either that or he'll try to cast her in some other role where she might be a decent fit ( say, Emma Frost....or ironically enough for this thread, I could see Fiege casting her as Gwen Stacy opposite Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Zendaya’s MJ). Fiege/Marvel have always got their eye out on high profile talent like Taylor-Joy, and I don't think he'd let her go yo waste just because she was in Fox X-Men spin-off barely anyone saw.

Zendaya's clearly ahead of the curve when it comes to awards hardware. Although there is something to be said about Emmys kind of having inertia where they'll just namecheck someone after their initial win (see Dinklage, Peter), I won't hold that against her. She's appearing in some pretty sizeable tentpoles as well, and Dune: Part II will give her a bit more to do.
I do think Taylor-Joy is the better actress based off of their respective bodies of work, and Furiosa will be a huge testament to her bankability and profile as a headline movie star. But I do think that Zendaya could, with time, be just as strong in that aspect as well. I would love to see her work with more interesting auteurs than Levinson, though; Villeneuve is a great start, though.

Ive post about the Emmy ratings. Not even Zendaya die hard fans seen it. Not about Euphoria popularity. Even the Euphoria fans complaint Zendaya performance except in one episode. Probably the one that was submit ti the Emmys. I barely seen Euphoria Season 1, and haven't seen Season 2. So I cannot judge about her winings. I dont find Euphoria as a show I wanted to see. Her first win was a surprise because most people thought that the nomination was the Win. And the show wasnt one that Emmy voters usually loves. The jewish girl from the Netflix drama was the favorite that delighted critics and won precursors

There's a strange dynamic to rating actor success at this stage - 2 Emmy's certainly is an impressive feat - but the Emmy specifically doesn't itself equate with itself even - you know, it's like Kate Winslet getting an Emmy is almost to damn her with faint praise anyway.....and what it meant was a bigger deal on a performance level .....
Prior to Michelle Williams winning her Emmy - her first significant career win - and closer to Winslet's level than it was to Zendaya's imo you could (and people did) say - she was a trailing in "trophies" to (somewhat, though far younger) peers - Portman, Stone, Lawrence, Larson ....that one Emmy - not THE Emmy - but THAT Emmy - suddenly lead to her being placed ahead of some of them (if not all) as an "actress" though not a star......it's always fuzzy but with Emmy's more so.....
So, awards do matter to some degree .......but it's always shifting and especially that's true with people this young like ATJ & Zendaya....

Nah, let's not play down what Zendaya has achieved. She's the youngest person in history to be a two-time acting Emmy winner, which we've barely even talked about . And she hasn't done it in one of those rinky-dink categories you can maybe dismiss (ie Outstanding Guest Performer in a Variety Special ...or whatever ) . She's done it twice in one of the Blue Riband categories of the Emmys. Outstanding Actress in A Drama ....going up against a murderers row of world class screen actresses and beating them. Emmys don't tend to reward younger actors or ingenues as often as often as Oscar has (which makes Winslet beating Taylor-Joy make sense ), so it makes Zendaya’s feat in defeating older veterans in her category twice even more impressive. These two Emmy wins, how they were achieved, the age she achieved it at, the competition she achieved it against and the category she achieved it in, make Zendaya major as a prestige Actress. They just do. Just as Bryan Cranston was when he was repeating in the equalivant male category for Breaking Bad. It'll simply be interesting to see how she builds on it going forward and if/when she'll get the Oscar breakthrough.

Yes, while Emmy's are not Oscars, it's clearly a massive prestige boost, and is silly to say otherwise. And while Zendaya's wins aren't seen as undeniable like, say, Cranston in the last season of BB or Jon Hamm finally winning in the last season of Mad Men, they're also not a joke like Game of Thrones winning for it's later seasons, and she so far didn't beat anyone that obviously should be winning, like Julia Garner winning again over Rhea Seehorn.

I don't know Patty Duke was a t first an Oscar winner, then one of the youngest Emmy Nominee, won several Emmy Nominations (and 3 wins, the first at 23) and still her career gone in a downhill since her oscar win at 16.- Being awarded don't make you a big star or a prestigious actor. Chad Lowe won an Emmy and is better remember as Hillary Swank ex, or Micheal J Fox already won 3 Emmy at 27, but he was too short to mantain his Hollywood Film stardom.- Zendaya clearly is a star, because of the success of The Spiderman movies, and have a large US fanbase since her teens, despite the fact outside US she is only knew for Spiderman films, Euphoria and Melissa Rivers feud.-
She is also involve in Dune, but there in the first episode, she was more like a meme. So right now does not count.-
Probably she will be nominee or win an Oscar in a near future. But looks like more like someone from the shadows is pushing that, than from her own merits or acting skills.-
Anya Taylor Joy looks like someone who is talent and had luck and for her 5 minutes of fame. Is she capable of become a star?, or she will be the next Julia Garner, Michelle Dockery, Claire Foy, Emilia Clarke or Jodie Comer (until now Not +A material).-

Yes - Jodie Comer is actually the perfect example of what I meant when I said that 2 Emmy's is nice to have - it's certainly impressive - but judging careers on people in their 20s - while fun to speculate and keep track of - is usually a nightmare to do........ Jodie Comer has an Emmy too - and while she hasn't won an Olivier or a Tony yet - she will be a strong threat to win one of those - or both - in the 2023 season - when she's eligible for a raved performance in Prima Facie - which is just brilliant btw - and has played theaters in the US ........and will come to Broadway next season. What is "better" to have - 2 Emmy's for the same role - or a Tony / Olivier for a one woman tour de force and 1 Emmy ? - now that depends if you're talking "work" or "career" - plus as of now she hasn't actualy done it yet - and she's I think 3 years older than Zendaya AND this thread is "career".....but the landscape is always fraught with stuff exactly like that - it's hard to discern ......careers don't often make sense artistically or commercially - until you look back on them - not at the outset in real time.......when you're this young one or two roles, performances, resets everything -

Miley Cyrus and Arianna Grande are definitely NOT in the same category as Britney. Maybe that wasn't that poster's point, but I just thought to point this out. The similarity is all 3 had the Disney Channel as their platform in their earliest days.
Anya Taylor Joy is not Christina Ricci. Latter was known by way more people in her day. I don't think many people cares about The Witch or The Northman, never heard those movies mentioned irl except by rottentomatoes film critics and young people.
It's hard to imagine Calista Flockhart never winning for Ally McBeal either. She lost to Helen Hunt twice. This is just me and my point of view, but as a kid in the late 90s.... Mad About You was something I barely ever hear or recognized if I did at all, whereas Ally McBeal I hear of every time I turn on TV. Just how I perceived things from my eyes.

I’m a huge fan of Zendaya’s work and voted for her when you created this poll. But are we really considering Emmys to be “prestige hardware”? Yes, absolutely. "EGOT." It is the preeminent award for television, as Oscars are for film, Tonys are for theatre, and Grammys are for music.

I don't think this is close. Zendaya is closer to Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, and Emma Watson. AKA the most recognizable figures of her age group. Not that she's Kidman, Streep, Roberts, or Jolie - but in her age group she's clearly Top 5.
ATJ is more like Chastain and Hathaway without the Oscars and high awards - yet. Those are the next tier - names that a lot of people have seen their faces, but the majority don't care about them to explore everything they've done with encyclopedic lens or name recognize them with the same type of frequency. Actually, Hathaway's not the most accurate example (but it's the best one I got for now) - as she was actually pretty huge during her main 6 or 7 years..... 2006-2012, and before that she was mostly a Disney princess. But she's gone the Zellweger after 2003 route now, and I don't think anything she's done endured significantly, with that many people caring about them anymore.
Zendaya's last 6 years is eclipsing Hathaway's main 6 years. Euphoria is way more fan devoted than anything Hathaway has ever done. Add the Spider Man franchise. More people care about her in that than they care about Hathaway in The Dark Knight Rises. And then the pair of blockbusters of Dune is making her exposed to more and more people. And what's worse is that her steam is just getting hotter, seems like she's targeting #1 instead of Top 5 and is not close to being done yet.
