There was a brief discussion about this in the election thread, but I thought I'd get a proper one going because I'm curious what the wider consensus will be. For millennials or Generation Z, it's either Bush or Trump (as much hate as Obama and Clinton got and still do get, it was limited to certain circles and was never really a mainstream perception), but I'm interested in what the older generations will think.

Maybe the answer will change a few years from now, when we are able to see Trump's damage in the long term, but for now I'll answer Dubya.

Can't believe someone's already voted Carter, he's easily the best one here.

OK, first of all I'm not that old, I'm just insanely curmudgeonly which makes me seem a good bit older .......when I'm old I'll really be something Trump is our most embarrassing President but that's not the same thing as worst..........I mean social issues aside (and some of the social issues are wrong anyway "Defund the Police" GTFO.......) he didn't start a war/conflict or allow us to be pushed around either.....everybody had jobs Pre-Covid .....he appointed 3 SCOTUS judges (agree with them or not) so historically he has that imprint, he killed the top 2 terrorists in the world............... all of that is miles away from people having to look at their license plates before being able to even have the "right" to buy gas and making us a laughing stock on the world stage....... Jimmy Carter was/is a very nice man.......but he was the worst modern President.........but what do I know I'm only 13. Oh, shut up.....

I 'm between Johnson and Carter, they b were equally worst by far. Then Nixon, Ford, Obama, Bush Jr, Kennedy, Trump, Clinton, Bush Sr, Truman, Eisenhower, snd finally Reagan the best by faaar.

Can't believe someone's already voted Carter, he's easily the best one here. Carter is an enigma. Only president to not order shots fired, which is fantastic. No endless wars started on his watch and negotiated peace deals in the Middle East. Also didn't really do much of anything besides that in his 4 years, but is that really a bad thing? President can't fuck up the country and makes things worse if he's not doing anything. It's almost like he's simultaneously the best and worst of the bunch.

I imagine the people choosing Jimmy Carter are Republicans that don't want one of their boys to win, trolls, or both.
Dubya is responsible for tens (hundreds?) of thousands of deaths in the Middle East, started a war for false motives, caused a chaos so big that twenty years later dealing with it, assaulted any environmental policy that he got his hands on because he was a prostitute for Big Oil, botched the response for Katrina and caused the biggest economic crisis in 75 years...until COVID, that is.
Trump is the most scandal ridden president in American history, gave pardons to allies like candy, had the biggest revolving door and incompetent staff in US history, made the United States a joke worldwide, nearly destroyed the system of alliances the US spend 70 years cultivating, and openly courted white supremacists. And that's not even mentioning being partially responsible for killing more Americans in a few months than Vietnam, actively fighting science and encouraging people to risk their lives.
Anyone that seriously says Carter is worse than these two is a moron.

Always great to see this board call someone a "moron" for having an opinion, ........you fncking morons ..... For the record, I'm registered Democrat - voted for Carter in the poll because he was a mess ........and since we're profiling people I have voted Dem top of ballot in EVERY Presidential election of my lifetime (244 years!) until this election (left the top of the ballot blank this time, voted for some Republicans down the ballot but more Democrat) and soon will be switching to Independent...most likely.......we'll see. As for our bizarre Carter love .......Hey If this board can claim that the 90s - which have Martin Scorsese's TWO worst movies (Cape Fear & Casino) were his best work ............ I guess revisionist history is our thing today so you do you MAR .......

It's Trump. The general incompetence is staggering, even with things everyone forgot about. His response in Puerto Rico for instance makes Bush's Katrina response look 100% well organized by comparison. It's a US territory so it's his responsibility. There's his pointless trade war with China. Then there's Corona, which he was warned about by both the CIA and Surgeon General well in advance. The US had protocols in place to preemptively deal with pandemics which Trump did not use and instead ignored it until the cat was out of the bag. And yes, there's the rampant corruption in regards to Russia/Ukraine as well as giving relatives important WH jobs they aren't qualified for. All in all I think he's damaged our standing in the world worse than any president, even Bush or Carter. We're not the leaders of the free world anymore quite frankly, the Europeans have decided to do their own thing. For one glaring example of this in the past the Europeans would have never stayed in the Iran deal after we withdrew. They always stuck with the US on security stuff like that. The problem is everyone thinks Trump's an idiot so they don't trust his judgment and do what they want instead. This is a problem, when the great powers are divided someone takes advantage and that's how big wars start. Carter's recession was his own fault and not a business cycle thing due to his mismanagement of inflation and he bungled the one major international crisis he had to deal with. He's not as bad as some other people but he still sucks.

I agree, I do think he was bad, but put him in the Bush/Trump league is just non-sense.

But we Greeks aren't much better, as we have voted for a prime-minister who once tried to adjust his bicycle's chain, while riding the said bike. Of course he fell and broke his hand. Now, he has actually founded an academy for "prime-ministers", were rich kids study to become career politicians. All of the prime-ministers we've voted since then were complete jokes as well. Actually, in polls done here that ask Greek citizens who is the most suitable for prime-minister, "Nobody" has been in the lead since 2012.

I think there's a fair argument that Trump is the worst we've had since Andrew Johnson, and I've enumerated my reasons for that comparison elsewhere. He's worse than even Warren G. Harding.
I think Nixon, Reagan and Bush II have far more blood on their hands and have far deeper, more entrenched ramifications from their presidencies that led to our current state of affairs, but I can acknowledge the positive aspects of their administrations, even if I think in the case of Reagan, they are far too overblown. But I can genuinely see zero upside to the Trump administration.

Funny thing about Ford, a lot of people seem to toss his presidency aside as a big nothing that was barely memorable. I guess that's right because it seems generally forgotten that he supported Suharto and supplied Indonesia with weapons in their invasion of East Timor, which resulted in a genocide. Kind of insane how someone can be in office for such a short period of time and still be responsible for war crimes to that extent.

Along with everything you mentioned, literally the first thing he did in office was pardon nixon
