Nomadland still feels right to me. Mank will likely dominate the techs and maybe squeak a win for Fincher, but honestly, I think Zhao has more winner upside as being more of a "moment" and having the stronger critical backing, and it's a strong player for Editing and Adapted Screenplay. It's also a way to reward McDormand with a prize without giving her a third Best Actress trophy.

I’m still not exactly confident, but I do feel better than a few weeks ago when there were the usual Mank “is the best film ever made” tweets which made Mank look like it would be an easy winner for Netflix, at least to me for about a day, but as the embargo got closer things came back to Earth. And now that reviews are out, I don’t think it will be strong enough especially since one of the criticisms is that it’s cold and distant. Plus even with Biden winning and a lot in Hollywood celebrating, I still think they’ll want to go with something that’s “important”. I could see Mank winning some if not many other televised precursors, assuming that they’re televised this award season, but I think like other runner-ups recently, it will fall short given the way Best Picture is voted on. Nomadland might not seem like a conventional choice, but I don’t see many cons for it like I do for Mank. It’s Fox Searchlight not Netflix, has the “importance” factor, and is a festival favorite.

Yeah I think it's time I finally hop off the Mank train. Going with Nomadland.

Moving away from Mank. Gonna go with News of the World.

I think we may be underestimating Chicago 7. It’s very topical and a SAG contender. I’m still picking Nomadland but I think there might be something there.

One film that I feel should be added to the poll considering it has a better chance than at least half the films already on there, is The Father.

I'll stick to Mank for another month.
The reviews are not the best possible but I think it's too early to take them into consideration.
Nomadland and News of the World are my runner-ups atm.

Nomadland has the acclaim, the narrative, the political relevancy, a good studio and it’s already won a few Audience Awards (granted in thin fields).

Nomadland ain't winning, I'm just gonna stick with that. I wonder if the extended deadline isn't gonna really throw a loop in the race. I think at this point Mank looks to get so many nods it'll seem like the choice to go with, but I also think we're gonna get a left-field winner this year not listed here - but what?!

I'm gonna go back to Trial of the Chicago 7. I think it could be really benefit from the preferential ballot.

Black is King’s monumental gain in momentum over the last month is still fresh in my mind. Don’t see anything taking it over at the moment.

I keep hoping something we weren’t expecting ends up being released and wins. So far it seems to be going the opposite way though with so much still being bumped to next year or beyond. Perhaps it’s because Supporting Actor is still wide open, and I’m still a big a stan as ever, but I keep hoping The Last Duel is still going to surprise this year so that Scott can either win in a pretty empty field, or that will give him momentum next year for Gucci, assuming he’s able to get Gucci out next year. The only hitch is that I don’t think Disney-Fox would release it right before the Oscar deadline, but maybe if they thought it has a good chance of winning. Lol I know it’s not happening, but I have to cling on to something since it and Annette didn’t come out this year, and I only got a few glimpses of the actors, and the production of 65 got pushed up a week which makes me worry that they’ll just keep bumping up the making of it til next year.

It feels that way now for sure. US vs Billie Holiday is one though that has some buzz and a late but prime release date and may have our Lead Actress winner too....

Well, it still has to show up on the eligibility list. It’s been an entertaining trolling entry in these polls but can you just remove it from the Dec one? My goal with the poll is to remain objective because that maintains the integrity of the poll. I do not want to select what can and what can't be on the poll. It's the board's poll. I knew this would happen by the way, and rolled my eyes at it. LMAO. But the only way I'll take it off is the Academy deems it ineligible or if it falls off by itself and the latter is not happening for obvious reasons.

Because there are at least like 3 films on the poll that aren't even going to get nominated for BP so I wouldn't mind seeing some more viable options.

If it is mentioned in the thread, I add it the following month. So if you don't see a film on the poll that means nobody has mentioned it. For example, The Father was added but since nobody thought it would win best picture it got dropped. I think that happened approx. two months ago.

Black is King appears to have lost a little bit of momentum. Not too phases though, still a looooong race to go.
