I think we all need to celebrate Sean Connery's legacy and Halloween by watching the fuck out of Outland, which has Frances Sternhagen giving an Oscar-worthy performance and Peter Boyle being awesomely scummy.

RIP Absolutely love him in The Offence, The Man Who Would Be King, The Hill, Marnie, the Bonds. He had star charm across his career, an impressive sometimes slightly scary toughness, he could be subtle and effortlessly cool.

The SCOT awarding the GOAT his '76 BAFTA - Connery also gave the first speech for his AFI Lifetime which Connery got the year before and is probably online somewhere.......not only did he give him his BAFTA, Connery also worked with Martin Bregman and of course Lumet too so their paths intersected a bit......it's pretty cool when those kind of guys, both legends know each other when you wouldn't necessarily think their paths had crossed at all at first (Connery says they've know each other "30 years" in the AFI iirc) Speaking of BAFTA ..........Connery is also that very rare "double BAFTA nominee in 2 acting categories" in the same year - 1987 Best Actor Name of the Rose (winner) and Best Supporting Actor ( Untouchables) (nominee)...........that shows you how loved he was.

Viced will appreciate this. The coolest thing Sean Connery ever did was face off against Johnny Stompanato, Lana Turner's gangster paramour and James Ellroy staple, when Stompanato threatened the two of them with a gun on the set of the film they were making. Stompanato drew his gun, Connery snatched his hand and bent it back, forcing him to drop the gun.

The original and best James Bond and also a very good dramatic actor in some of his later roles. RIP. As others have alluded to he would have had a great career even if you just look at his post Bond stuff. Indiana Jones, The Man Who Would Be King, and of course winning an Oscar for The Untouchables. This is great if you read it in his voice in your head.

Alec Baldwin: Really gets the reason why modern actors are separate from the previous stars like Connery I think....... Baldwin adds that a personality he aligns Connery with is a fellow Golden Age actor that Hollywood lost this year, Kirk Douglas.
"These actors were great stars, very handsome leading men, but they were great actors," Baldwin said. "Sean was a great actor, a wonderful actor. I learned a lot from watching him about being real in front of the camera.
Processing what the loss of such a transcendent actor means to the industry, Baldwin said, "As we lose more and more of those people, it'll be the end of an era because those are really the last real movie stars. Everybody that became a movie star after 1980, it's a little bit different. It's not as overwhelming, it's somewhat different." www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/alec-baldwin-remembers-monolithic-presence-of-red-october-co-star-sean-connery

Also btw love Baldwin and his enthusiasm, like as we know with Pacino, and he's often very funny and charming while singing praise. I saw him introduce a Manhattan screening once and he was fumbling papers excitedly talking about Woody and who he's directed, he was like a kid giving a class presentation.

theplaylist.net/sean-connery-brett-ratner-20201101/Funny little story from Brian Koppelman (Rounders, Billions) and also annoying bc if Brett Ratner wasn't such a clown we'd have another Connery movie. ( Connery quit this 2004 project , turned down $17.5m , he was to play an aging thief )
