I think her career is on the upswing, and I thought she was the MVP of S1 of BLL (though I thought Reese was underrated a bit). I just think she could use some well-regarded recent films with some cultural cachet on her resume. When I hear Kidman is part of a movie this past decade or so, it's almost a signal to me that there's something off with it (Paddington excluded), and that shouldn't really be the case. I think she's a better actress than Chastain, but there seems to be some kind of affinity there.

I would have definitely agreed with this assesment pre- Lion. Before 2016, her film career was not in a good place. No film project for a few years consecutively in the early to mid 2010s really seemed to work or make an impact ( Paddington excluded), and she just seemed to be treading water. I feel like Lion started to right the ship somewhat. A Best Picture nominee that made a lot of money, which Kidman was almost the face of (and a supporting actress nominee) in spite of Dev Patel being the lead. Then following up with The Killing Of A Sacred Deer and The Beguiled, she smartly went back to the indie auteur well that's served her so well in the past by making two very well recieved films by highly regarded auteurs (The Beguiled winning Best Director for Sofia Coppola in Cannes and nominated for the Palme D'or. TKOAD winning Best Screenplay at Cannes and also a Palme D'or nominee). Those two films did a lot to restore Kidman's cache with the indie, Euro-arthouse crowd, which had dropped off somewhat since the days of Dogville. It's a different kind of cultural cache to the mainstream one, but it's quite important to Kidman's specific standing and career. Destroyer isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I honestly think it's got cult status in it's future (similar to Birth), and when it's being championed by the likes of Christopher Nolan, that's no small thing. Boy Erased and Bombshell were solid awards season pictures that got acclaim. and Aquaman was the first DC universe film to make over a billion dollars (I imagine a lot of kids today now only know Kidman as Queen Atlanna). I think her film career has been very good post-Lion, especially considering her age. She's prolific, so she'll still have the odd turkey (ie The Goldfinch) but when you compare it to her stretch of disappointments just before Lion, it's like night and day. I don't think the Chastain comparison really works at all, especially if you look at the last 4 years, since Kidman's film career started ticking up again. Chastain has done no movies that enhanced her status with the Euro-arthouse crowd like Kidman. She's not been in a Best Picture nominee (or nominated for an Oscar) in that period like Kidman. And she has made some of the worst recieved franchise films out there ( The Huntsman: Winter's War and X-Men: Dark Phoenix). Kidman has been making film choices recently that have in some way enhanced her career. Chastain hasn't. And Chastain is 10 years younger than Kidman, so in theory has significantly more film options available to her (ie, Chastain is still getting cast as hot babe district attorneys in leads, while Kidman is at an age where she is expected to play supporting mom roles).

Nicole Kidman's filmography since her supposed righting of the ship in 2016: 1. Genius (2016) - A failure- Mixed reviews (56/100 on Metacritic) - Box-office bomb ($6M gross on a $17M budget) 2. Lion (2016) - An unqualified success, but she was 4th billed in a supporting role, so to call her "almost the face" of the movie is delusional - Best Picture nominee fetching her a Supporting Actress nomination - Good reviews (69/100 on Metacritic) - Huge box-office success ($140M gross on a $12M budget) 3. How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2017) - An absolute failure- Bad reviews (50/100 on Metacritic) - Box-office bomb ($400K gross on whatever budget) 4. The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) - A decent success- Good reviews (73/100 on Metacritic) - Box-office flop ($7M gross on whatever budget) 5. The Beguiled (2017) - A success- Good reviews (77/100 on Metacritic) - Box-office success ($27M gross on a $10M budget) 6. The Upside (2017) - A decent success- Bad reviews (46/100 on Metacritic) - Big box-office success ($126M gross on a $37.5M budget) 7. Destroyer (2018) - A failure- Mixed reviews (62/100 on Metacritic) - Box-office bomb ($5.5M gross on an $11M budget) 8. Boy Erased (2018) - A marginal success- Good reviews (69/100 on Metacritic) - Box-office flop ($12M gross on an $11M budget) 9. Aquaman (2018) - A success- Mixed reviews (55/100 on Metacritic) - Major box-office success ($1148M on a $200M budget) 10. The Goldfinch (2019) - A humongous failure- Bad reviews (40/100 on Metacritic) - Major box-office bomb ($10M gross on a $45M budget) 11. Bombshell (2019) - A marginal success- Mixed reviews (64/100 on Metacritic) - Average box-office performance, at best ($60M gross on a $32M budget) So, in 5 years and 11 movies, Kidman has had 1 unqualified success in Lion (albeit as a supporting player). The rest range from box-office successes like Aquaman (where even Amber Heard had a higher profile role), to marginal successes like Bombshell (where she was overshadowed by an upstart like Margot Robbie), to failures that went nowhere like Destroyer (a Globe nomination is its saving grace), to massive dumpster fires like The Goldfinch. Most of them haven't even gotten good reviews. Not bad for her age, but it's no wonder that she's transitioning more and more to a lesser medium like Television where she has had more success over the past few years. You'd almost think Nicole Kidman was Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt with this hype job about how she is restructuring the studio system. I mean, I'm sure The Goldfinch belly-flopping at the box-office caused some structural changes in certain studios, but I don't think that's the kind of change she really wants to affect here The reality is that Kidman hasn't had her best decade in Film, with more failures than successes in the 2010s, and is taking her opportunities in a lesser medium where she's had more successes than failures. Pretty savvy, and she's not doing bad for herself by any means, but let's not go crazy here.

Who is comparing Kidman to Leonardo DiCaprio? She's got an impressive level of industry clout and infuence for a 53 year old woman and along with Reese Witherspoon, is helping innovate how actresses can successfully navigate their careers in middle age, especially with the heavy focus on production. It ain't that deep.

It ain't that deep. Oh honey, there's nothing innovative about what Kidman & Witherspoon are doing, so enough with the hyperbole! Since the 1950s, many actresses have run their own production companies; obvious ones like Marilyn Monroe, & Lucille Ball (who was so successful that she ended up running her own studio) to recent ones like Charlize Theron, whose Atomic Blonde (theatre not TV) made back double its budget; Elizabeth Banks got very wealthy owning the Pitch Perfect franchise; Salma Hayek with Ugly Betty... and I assume when you've got your face out of Kidman's butt cheeks and stopped lickin her botoxed ass, that you may have heard of: Hope Floats (1998); Miss Congeniality & Miss Congeniality 2 (2000 & 2005); The Proposal (2009) & Bird Box (2018) - all successfully produced by Sandra Bullock Please, just give the nauseating Kidman sycophancy a rest for a while. Now, someone please pass me the bucket...

I know that schtick stuff helped all the losers stand out on IMDB, but why do you still keep up this shit on a site with like 50 active posters? You can be your real self "honey". We won't judge you It's why I can't take you seriously. On almost anything. Not just Kidman (as I said, I find your opinions on her irrelevant because you don't hide that you are a hater, which I also appreciate). So you are just someone I usually ignore. I don't know who the hell you really are and you clearly lack the confidence to speak in your true voice. I don't have time for gimmick posters, and you have kept up this gimmick for the better part of a decade. It's sometimes mildly amusing, but mostly sad. As for the rest of your tedious screed, no shit there have been female stars who have produced before. Never said there wasn't. Kidman and Witherspoon are taking the concept in different directions in a different time ( in the age of streaming and Peak TV) and encouraging their peers to do similar. End Of. If you choose to disagree, that is your business. Now buzz off, and go do your Carole Lombard or Rita Hayworth Drag Queen act, or whatever the hell it is you usually do when you aren't shitposting with your fake online persona

Good God - While I agree that Kidman could afford (figuratively and literally) to be more selective in her film projects, I strongly disagree with the idea that television is a "lesser" medium - particularly in this post- Sopranos, post- Sex and the City world. Even back in '94, Anjelica Huston turned down Polanski's Death and the Maiden for the chance to play Calamity Jane on television's Buffalo Girls. The precedent is there for women choosing television over film (when they really don't have to) simply because the parts are more interesting to them.

I don't have any problem with you Mattsby. Aside from you being up Pacinoyes's arse 24/7 (I'm guessing he's the icon here ) you are just there for me. But think what you wish. We've never been friends, but again, just because I'm constantly at odds with your mentor and buddy, doesn't mean I have any ill will towards you. But hey, he's your guy and you wanna defend him. That is honorable. But we both know you are not impartial here. I've got friends on this board too, but I don't need them to fight my battles.

Just like the precedent is there for actors and actresses choosing supporting parts over leading parts because the parts are more interesting to them. That doesn't mean that actors wouldn't generally prefer playing interesting leading roles over interesting supporting roles. Even Anjelica Huston, who you cited, explicitly stated that the reason she switched to Television was because there weren't enough interesting roles in Film for women and that Television was treating women better. It's more a case of being forced out of Film due to a dearth of opportunities than someone at the top of Hollywood opting to do Television over Film. Like I said, I am not criticizing her for it and I think it is pretty savvy of Kidman to be doing more Television, but let's be realistic. I think even you would agree that if she was getting the opportunities of someone like Jennifer Lawrence, she wouldn't be doing as much Television. In other words, she is no Queen of Film, which is why she is trying her hand at becoming the Queen of TV.
