No one. There shouldn't be a remake. Zing!

Well here's a recent development that went under the radar. Lisa Cholodenko (she did Olive Kitteridge most recently) is apparently writing and directing this for Paramount. For one she's listed on IMDb but it was confirmed in a Deadline report last month.

I'm not a big fan of The Kids Are All Right, but she directed good performances in that movie, and seems right for this one.

Someone remind me why we need an english-language remake of this? Because the original was only 40% in English, not 100%, of course.

Confirmed that Cholodenko is doing this. Btw just thinking if this wasn't a Nicholson vehicle, if it even still is, it'd be interesting if they casted someone like Frances McDormand as "Toni" and like Mia Wasikowska as the daughter (to pick people who've worked with Cholodenko).

According to this Entertainment Weekly article Bill Murray was the first choice but took too long to respond. He'd work. Some other names, which include The Almighty...

How the hell does he fit in with the others. Nicholson was perfect but if he's out, then I think the second best choice is Jeff Bridges.

Bridges or Al would be cool....
Meh on Nathan Lane...
Larry David can't act...

Ehhh I wouldn't want him to do it. The role is so goofy and the project will depend on the whoever is cast selling the role. And the project itself is shaky, could very well be a weak, watered-down, extra-serving-of-syrup remake of an already (mostly) great film. I think only Bill Murray has that convincing off-hand idiosyncrasy to make this work. Or, y'know, switch the gender...

Agreed Murray sounds the best on paper... but it's a lead role in a high profile (ish) movie... could lead to a nom for old Al!!!

I'm not surprised, to be honest. Nicholson is now in his 80's, and his health is starting to decline. I read that he's suffering from memory issues, which would probably result in difficulties memorizing his lines. He's probably been eating compulsively too; judging by his most recent photos, he's now obese.
I think this role would be perfect for Bill Murray, and could earn him the Oscar he deserves but never won. I could also see Jeff Bridges doing it. Not so sure about the others that were mentioned, though.

I am just happy that Al Pacino, who you people wisely just voted the sexiest actor in Westerns EVER on here is now stealing every role from that doofus who finished way back at number 5. Give him that 1975 Oscar too grandpa.
