Scott is a hit and miss, and despite Phoenix's involvement, I don't have much hope about it.

I love the idea of Ridley doing a Napoleon pic. Would've turned out great in the early 00s. I'm not so sure right now.

Hopefully this is one of the 1739 Ridley Scott projects that actually gets realized. It's really intriguing having somebody like Ridley Scott entering the Napoleon territory. There are so many stories to be told about that era.

Yes and that's a pretty good film, despite him having not his epic style and the budget he would have for works like Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven yet.

Indeed, but I'd rather that this film be more intimate and personal than having that sweeping epic feel, but I know there will be some killer set pieces if nothing else.

No one has said yet how the title is godawful. Kitbag. Yeeek. According to Collider this week, Fukunaga/Spielberg/HBO's Napoleon is still being developed. It's a ripe as hell person to play but why does only Ian Holm in Time Bandits jump to mind for me! Does anyone have a fav Napoleon perf?

Albert Dieudonne is still the gold standard when it comes to Napoleon in cinema, but Holm was excellent.

I think I've only seen Holm, (who was good) and Brando (who, well... wasn't).

I've never seen it pulled off "that" well but the Christian Clavier one while not exactly good has good things in it (one of which is Depardieu in support and cinematography ......also I believe Napolean is the only role Brando and Rod Steiger (Waterloo) both did.......? Holm did Napolean a lot too - Napolean and Love, The Emperor's New Clothes.........also I always enjoyed James Tolkan's take for Woody personally........"Put down that gun, she's over 18!"

(2003), Ian Holm in The Emperor's New Clothes (2001), and Patrice Chereau in Adieu Bonaparte (1985) stand head and shoulders (no pun intended) above the various others I've seen.

Not excited about this. Scott is a huge hit and miss, wildly inconsistent, it could end up being something very dull and by the numbers.

Watching an actor like Phoenix play Napoleon is reason enough to be excited about this.
