It's not considered 2 wins if both tracks tie for Original Song, though, is it? It's one film winning one category. I don't know.
Anyways, I'll go with nine.
1. Best Picture 2. Best Director 3. Best Actress 4. Best Cinematography 5. Best Editing 6. Best Production Design 7. Best Original Score 8. Best Original Song 9. Best Sound Mixing
Washington wins Actor, Lonergan wins Screenplay, Jackie wins Costume Design and Hacksaw wins Sound Editing. Though honestly I can see La La Land winning all of the latter three.

You can look at it this way : It is reasonably locked in 3 main categories, 3 visual categories, and 3 sound categories. Those are :
Picture Director Actress
Cinematography Editing Production Design
Score Song Sound Mixing
So unless something goes really wrong that's a minimum of 9 Oscars. And then it has a decent shot at one more Oscar in each of the three kinds of categories :
Screenplay (main) Costumes (visual) Sound Editing (sound)
Out of those three, it is likely to win at least 1.
So we're looking at probably 10 Oscars in total, with 11 or even 12 being definitie possibilities.

10 feels like a safe number; same as West Side Story. I don't think it's a phenomenon of Titanic and LOTR levels, so I'll be surprised if it meets and especially if it surpasses that exclusive 11 club.

I would hardly say it's locked in any of the visual categories, even if it is the favourite in at least two of them. It didn't win editing at the BAFTAs (to Hacksaw), and Arrival also won the guild award with it, so it could go to either of those films who have far more obvious editing...that in particular is a category I could see it losing.

It's definitely the frontrunner in all three of them. I mean, which movie do you see being ahead ?
The thing is, those categories are all over the place, with no clear runner up standing out, while La La Land is the movie everyone loves and which also clearly deserves to win those categories (as opposed to something like Sound Editing, for example, where it would be somewhat questionable), so all in all there is literally no reason for the Academy to go with something else.
I think the editing is very noticeable in La La Land, most of the movie is made up of montages or visual sequences, it has plenty of showy cuts and effects (fades, iris...) and the performances are superbly cut. So no problem here. The thing I'm worried about is Tom Cross already won not long ago.
To be fair, I think the British weren't too crazy about the movie and are just sort of weird people, generally. They certainly have their own unique way to do things.

Looking at my predictions, I have it winning 8. But anything between 6-10 is feasible. More than that, no.

You are right, it's quite unlike the long, big epics that were Titanic, ROTK and Ben-Hur. It belongs more in a category of its own. Hence 12.
